As he moves from lobbyists to the golf course, from press conferences to the tanning bed, he remains oblivious to all that is around him. He has power, incredible power, and yet to this day he has no understanding of the election that made it so. Moreover, all around him are astonishing opportunities for him to be an historic figure -- one who could and should be the man who did more than any other single person in turning back the red tide of Obama. Its all there for Speaker of the House, and yet John Boehner manages to miss it all -- as he guarantees his spot as the most spectacular failure in the history of Speakers of the House.
So seriously, just how dense is this guy? Im not being flippant, or overly dramatic. His performance, in light of the momentous circumstances, necessitates just that question in the most literal and serious sense. Mr. Boehner, I frankly think youre sort of stupid. Either that, or you are plagued by an amazing lack of situational awareness.
Consider: For months, the IRS has done their best to guarantee that they are known as nothing but part of the Democratic Party election machine. Lois Lerner remains such an unsympathetic figure that the last public photo of her might as well have been a set of legs with red slippers sticking out from under a house. Elijah Cummings has been exposed as a corrupt and inarticulate embarrassment, and an email trail is emerging that would make Nixons use of the IRS look like childs play. This one scandal is an incredible teaching opportunity of the inherent evils of the liberal bureaucratic political state. Donald Rumsfeld understands this. Boehner? Not so much. Hes talking about immigration deform.

Why take on immigration reform and fracture your base when we have Dems on the ropes with Obamacare and a hapless President on domestic and foreign policy?
Boehner is about as sharp as a beach ball.
Maybe, if enough Conservatives can win some House Seats, we can replace him..... and Cantor.
Part of it is DC is a separate culture unto itself. It is hard to not conform - you actually have to take the time to think independently and have the wherewithal to be a nonconformist in the middle of that perverse culture.
Boehner is inconsistant in his focus and in his aggressiveness. On a Monday, he’s. calling out Obama for being a weak liar, but by Wednesday of the same week, he’s back to cheerleading for blanket amnesty.
Boehner isn’t slow witted, he’s owned by Barry and the Demwits through blackmail.
I don’t think he’s stupid. It’s worse than that.
He’s a “responsible Republican”. Very few voters who like that image understand what it means.
Like Dole, like Bob Michel, like McConnell, what he is “responsible” about is preserving the welfare state, or, as they like to call it, the “safety net”. Since the welfare state is in terminal crisis, preserving it without destroying everything else of value in the nation is getting more and more difficult.
But, if the preservation of the EBT card and Medicare happens to require the death of everything else, well then, that’s a price the GOP leadership is willing to pay. Willing? No, EAGER to pay. How else are they going to prove they are “responsible”?
And, like the many Whigs who struggled to build increasingly complex political fictions to preserve the slavery state, they are correct about the looming blood price they wish to avoid. It’s not that they are WRONG about what will happen when the welfare state collapses - I’m not looking forward to it, either. They are simply wrong about what they are willing to sacrifice to maintain the illusion that the welfare state can be saved.
this is absolutely correct, which is why I also have a project called “Virtual Congress Now” that I’m working on.
but if you don’t have the goods, that makes for kind of a short article, doesn’t it?
Leave him alone - he suffers from “Rino” desease...... /s
America is being destroyed by Obama, and Team Romney led
by Boehner the Democrat.
I live next door to his district and travel through there often. Boehner signs are few and far between. This time it iS different, he’s in trouble. I don’t know who the Dems will put up against him but if he’s any good, Boehner is toast.
Alcohol in large quantities tends to make one dull.
PS this is just the primary, but it foretells trouble ahead.
Republicans need to primary someone against Boehner. I still can’t believe he was re-instated as speaker when they had the votes to sack him.
Boner makes the whacked out idiot Pelosi look like a genius.
Mediocrity would be an improvement.
Boener can do ANYTHING HE WANTS as long as he leave AMNESTY (i.e., ‘immigration reform’) off the table.
He is a bad meal that Republicans were warned not to consume (again) after the 2012 election, but they did anyway. Hopefully we do well enough to have enough conservatives to show him the door.
Say what you will about John but 99.9999% of all in DC, that We the People elected, are just as dull and some more so. We’re the problem not them. Much of the article could apply to the electorate. Yet, we have simpletons clamoring for term limits et al. Why? We’ve always had the tools and opportunity to install those who are true leaders and wise. We decided to not do that and here we are today.
