The Russians have historically been very good at it and are proud of their capabilities. Last year, Russian state-run television news aired a story about the elite teams that train for exactly this kind of cloaked missions abroad.

sounds like a playbook out of the zero administration....
It is a great strategy as long as the country has similar cultural and ethnic similarities. It would be like American SF conducting “Maskirovka” OPS in lets say, Canada or Great Britain. Can do easy. Let the Russkies attempt that strategy in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, or Iran. That is a different ball game.
It has been remarked by many people that Barack Hussein Obama is a sleeper agent who was mentored from birth as a Maskirovka operation or Manchurian Candidate undertaken in a joint operation by Soviet-Russian and Saudi intelligence services.
Well I guess it can be done if the people of the target country (Read: USA) that elected him are that uninformed and/or stupid.
I would care more if Ukraine actually did something to defend their own borders against russian forces. I’m tired of these places looking toward the US for help on something they won’t do themselves. Didn’t the Chechens keep the ruskies at bay for a few years?
