President Barack Obama called Thursday on Republicans to end their quest to repeal Obamacare — and Democrats to “forcefully defend and be proud” of the law.
In remarks from the White House briefing room, Obama delivered a vigorous defense of the program, which has far exceeded enrollment expectations but remains a liability for Democrats in the midterm elections.
“I don’t think we should apologize for it,” Obama said. “I don’t think we should be defensive about it. I think there is a strong, good, right story to tell. What the other side is doing and what the other side is offering would strip away protections from those families, and from hundreds of millions of people who had health insurance before the law passed.
“I’m still puzzled why they’ve made this their sole agenda item when it comes to our politics,” he added. “It is curious.”
Obama announced that at least 8 million people have signed up for health insurance through state and federal exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.
“I think we can agree that it is well past time to move on, as a country…The point is, this debate is and should be over. The Affordable Care Act is working. The American people don’t want us re-fighting the battles of the past five years. ” he said in the White House briefing room.
“I find it strange that the Republican position on this law is still stuck in the same place that it has always been,” he continued. “They still can’t bring themselves to admit that the Affordable Care Act is working. They said nobody would sign up.

I knew 100% for certain that those with costly pre-existing conditions like AIDS would line up around the block to enroll.
And I was pretty confident that most of those that qualified for the expansion of Medicaid would line up around the block for the newest free handout.
As for everyone else? not so much (except for those the already had insurance prior to this disaster which were forced to buy plans under the program because their old plans had been eliminated by Obama.
Defend?
How do you defend policies that lead to something like the mudslide out in Washington State?
How do you defend policies that lead to vast forest fires that destroy thousands of acres and a multitude of homes?
How do you defend policies that lead to thousands dying prematurely because of problems that were not addressed in a timely manner?
Because the cumulative effect of the denial of care to hundreds of thousands of patients under Obamacare is going to vastly dwarf the sources of early death from almost every other source short of wholesale genocide. The death count may one day be as high as the wrongful early deaths that may be attributed to late-term abortion.
“Saving lives” is going to become a meaningless concept, unavailable to the vast majority of residents of that territory once known as “the United States of America”.
