If he voted to continue the debate, that would have been a vote to support the filibuster, which the author should have been happy with. I honestly don’t know if he supported the filibuster or not, I was just pointing out a little inconsistency.

Nancy Mace is not a politician; in fact she has never run for political office. She’s a wife, mother and small business owner.

She is someone who is passionate about her country and she is someone who is seriously concerned about the direction it is going. Nancy is the daughter of retired Army Brigadier General Emory Mace and school teacher Anne Mace, Ph.D. Nancy was born at Fort Bragg, N.C., while her father was a Major stationed with the 82nd Airborne. Nancy admires, from firsthand experience, what our military and their families go through to protect our freedom and preserve liberty.

AN UNLIKELY STORY Nancy is from a family of achievers. Her father was an US Army general and two of her siblings graduated from West Point. While Nancy is proud to be part of such a rich tradition, she often jokes that she did not receive the same gene as her siblings. Nancy freely admits that she found school very challenging.

While Nancy may not have been the best student, she did enjoy swimming and running and embraced athletics as a release from the daily grind. But without the best track record in high school or a clear idea of her direction in life, Nancy began taking courses at a community college upon high school graduation. Nancy eventually became an administrative assistant for a real estate developer, which she credits for seeding the love of business and technology that she maintains to this day. This period in life also taught Nancy a little about life and helped reinforce the work ethic instilled in her by her parents and built a level of confidence in her that she still draws on today.

She also credits this time in her life with bringing her closer to God and finding salvation through Him.

Eventually Nancy decided she would focus on earning a four-year degree. A new and meaningful chapter in her life was about to begin.

THE CITADEL In the summer of 1996, The Citadel opened its doors to women and Nancy took a bold step—she simply hopped in her car and drove to The Citadel to pick up an application. The next day, she submitted it.

A few days later, Nancy was accepted as one of the first women ever to enter the Citadel’s ranks as a “knob.” Nancy took the plunge and joined the Corps of Cadets, eager to follow in her father’s footsteps.

Nancy graduated as the first woman from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets in 1999 with magna cum laude honors. She earned a degree in Business. Nancy eventually pursued a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Georgia’s School of Journalism, focusing on public relations.

SMALL BUSINESS OWNER Nancy’s first job out of college was with Accenture, one of the world’s largest management-consulting firms. As a consultant, her clients have included everyone from start-ups to multi-billion dollar, publicly-traded entities representing a plethora of industries.

Nancy married her husband Curtis in 2004. When she had her first child, Miles Emory, Nancy decided to become a stay-at-home mom. During this time she began working on a few public relations and marketing projects to stay engaged. Before her second child, daughter Ellison Anne was born, Nancy started a small consulting business: The Mace Group. The Mace Group has provided public relations and marketing to companies of all sizes and from multiple industries over the years. Some of her recent political clients have included Senator Tim Scott, Congressman Mick Mulvaney and SC State Senator Tom Davis.

An accomplished businesswoman, Citadel graduate, proud South Carolinian and most important to her—a wife and mother—Nancy resides in Charleston with her family.

But I have not lost all hope and I don’t believe the people of South Carolina have either.

We will not change our nation’s capitol by sending the same people back to DC year after year. We must elect principled leaders who are willing to make tough decisions.

So while I am humbled by the enormity of the task before us. I am heartened by the support of many people who are ready for a new generation of conservative leadership.

Pretty good boiler-plate. Is she any good? Does she have a chance? Most importantly, will she help chip away enough of Graham’s votes to drive him below 50%? If so, and she is not the second place finisher, will she get behind whoever that is to help defeat Graham in the run-off?

(I should mention I’m not a big fan of politicians who say they aren’t politicians. If she’s running, then she is by definition a “politician.”)

I know what you mean. Sounds kinduv like a rank amateur politician, doesn't she? Not the hard-nose wheeler-dealer we need to replace Graham?

I hear ya. Unfortunately, it usually takes a hard-nose wheeler-dealer to win a state-wide race for Senator in most states. I don’t know the lay of the land in SC. Being an “old” established state, I imagine that’s what it will take. At this stage of the game, when a run-off is required if Graham doesn’t get 50% of the vote, what matters is how much can be chipped away to force a run-off.

At this stage of the game, Cruz in TX didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Heck, but in the end he defeated the GOPe candidate, then the Rat. I’d love to see that in SC, but I don’t know enough to know which comer to root for. I live in AZ, home of Graham’s Master.

Haven't decided who I will vote for, Lord willing. My plan all along has been to wait for a statewide televised debate, which may or may not include Senator Graham, and then make my selection. I still think it matters little in the June 10th primary which challengers receive votes, as long as Graham receives 50% minus 1 vote. In the run-off three weeks later, anybody but Graham.

Lee Bright is the only other challenger to Graham that has received much of a boost here on FR, although Upchuck has posted pictures and names of the main challengers regularly in the past. I have felt all along that I would like to see Mace (and others) have a crack at it. I read her book.

She makes it clear in her writings and personal appearances that she was not a saint growing up. Neither was I. How many time-tested good wheeler-dealer deal-making politicians were and are?

I'd rather see tough conservative amateur Senators such as a Tim Scott or a Nancy Mace than the 90+ regular professional Senators we have now, or others who have mostly depended on political office for their livelihoods. Phooey on that failed plan.

That is not true; she continued to make personal appearances and still does. Why are you so against her or challengers other than Lee Bright? Your comments about Nancy Mace, from time to time, have the same tone as those who have lobbied against Palin on FR (basically for being a woman). You just are not being fair toward Nancy Mace or other challengers, although your advocacy of Lee Bright has been paramount. Why?

I had not read this biased article you linked until today. But I have seen (heard) the interview shortly after it was given. It was NOT a disaster for her (although the article IS) and her response to “How is your soul?” wasn't great but it was discussed at that time and since then on several FR threads. Stupid question designed to trip up someone who doesn't already know Beck will usually throw it in.

GLEN BECK? As an interviewer of women, such as Sarah Palin and Nancy Mace, he is not and never was much good at it; skittish, unsure of himself.

As for the hit-piece article you linked: the writer's opinions did not represent the assessments of those I've spoken with in the Upstate, many of whom support Richard Cash.

When he was still on FNC at 5 EST, Beck embarrassed himself in front of Palin and everyone who watched live or online delayed. Palin didn't know how to respond to his fawning over her and helped him stay on task and keep his show going that day.

The comparison to Palin and Mace was made because Beck has no idea how to approach an interview with strong-willed women, as both are, and bungled both interviews; as if his mind kept wandering. My comparison, which was not an analogy, withstands you Alinskyish assault.

Your response, "I do not support empty suits" does not answer WHY you bad-mouth challengers to Graham on FR, especially Nancy Mace and with the exception of Lee Bright. This has been asked of you in various manners by various FReepers over the course of time. You have yet to give me or anyone a legitimate (honest) reply.
