You see, Thorpe managed to steal a 21-year-old car by mistake, CNN affiliate WABC reported

I once broke into my sister’s car that was parked in a large parking lot at a national park only to rudely discover a pair of panties hanging on the door inside when I got in... It wasn’t my sister’s car... Locked the door and walked away...
I learned that it was common as the auto companys only had a limited set of unique key/lock combos to pass out.
I once had one of the older Ford trucks. Went into Walmart came out got into “my” truck, put the key into the ignition, started it up and was about to drive off when I looked in in the floorboard and realized there were one items in the truck that weren’t mind and immediatly exited the vehicle looking around to see my truck parked the next row over...: )
Found out later that Ford had standardized keys for that era that would fit other trucks but that the odds were highly against you finding another vehicle they would fit in. Well I guess I beat the odds that day...lol

So...Did the “unmoved” green Honda get a ticket for not being moved?
I unlocked a car identical to mine once and couldn’t figure out why the front seat was pulled all the way forward and who had cleaned up the crap in the console.
Weird feeling to process when I realized my car was a few down in the same row.
Interesting. Mine was ford also.
I had the same situation with a Dodge Caravan and a Plymouth Neon.
Jumped into my MGB years ago and tried to start it. As usual it was giving me problems. So I popped the bonnet. and got ready to dig for the back seat battery. Then I noticed that there were things in the car that were not mine. MY car was two cars down. I put everything back and blushed my way over to the MONSTER.
My mother came home with the wrong car from the mall one day. she had a 1986 Chevy Nova.. Red..
there was always at least 10 in a parking lot. She was going to take me to an appointment when I went to fiddle with the radio and I asked “mom, when did you get a cassette player installed?” she looked at the radio and me and said “I didn’t, and the radio was on some rock station when I got in the car...”
Then I looked in the glove box and found the real owners insurance information.
It was a hard sell to the police but in the end, they did agree with our story. Our key fit and worked in their car, their key fit and worked in ours.
Aside from the radio the cars where exact copies of each other.
from that day on, mom would check the license plate number of the car before she tried the key.
So how do I distinguish mine from the rest? Easy, mine has the open window in the back seat (left side). I'm not putting any more money in a 15 YO Yukon than I absolutely have to. lol
Is it stealing? Doesn’t there have to be intent?
‘64 Impalas had this issue, my dad and a neighbor each had white ones and accidently swapped them one night at the local watering hole.
I unlocked the door of a ‘98 Ford Explorer, saw unfamiliar books on the passenger seat, looked around, and saw mine. Didn’t try the ignition, but the door unlocked smoothly.
