And therein lies the rub: The Arab Spring. A disaster for Israel - and in reality for the U.S., too - even though Obama and his allies might not believe this to be the case? Before the Arab Spring, Israel had good relations with Egypt (and much better than now) even though Mubarak was a monstrous plutocrat. Plutocrat that he was, the Arab Spring - hailed by the Obama administration - brought in the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Egypt - which Obama allies called "largely secular" even though israel knew this to be false.

The Arab Spring also brought the also-monstrous Assad to the brink of being ousted... But Isreal surely could see that when Obama was about to intervene with bombings, this would help extremist Syrian rebels, and they surely thought they would be worse for Israel than Assad ever was.

Perhaps Israel sees this as a continuation of the "Arab Spring." If so, that would explain their vote. And I believe that is what is occuring...

Israel got tired of the US working against its interest. Blame Clinton and Kerry.

They just realize America can no longer be trusted due to the antisemitic liberals in power and the cowardly ‘opposition’ party that empowers them. And they likely won’t trust us ever again.

They see Russia as a better and more stable option as a partner. I do not blame them a bit but I am sorry it had to be this way.

This also wouldn't be the first time that there was a significant split on an international question between American neoconservatives and Israel's leaders.

Israel's leaders recognize Obama as a feckless leader. They are choosing to align themselves with Putin who is not.

The present administration picked sides in the Arab vs Israeli conflict, and the Arabs came out on top. Should Israel stand by our side while we aid and abet their enemies? Hardly.

If the Russians are smart, they’ll cozy up to Israel... with it’s large ex-Soviet population and vast technology experience... and build an alliance. The problem is that when Putin is gone, I have a hard time seeing Russia get over it’s built-in Jew hatred. Scratch a Russian and a Jew hater is right underneath. I wish that would change, but it is what it is.

As long as I can remember which goes back to childhood in the early1930s, there have always been a significant number of ‘Russian Jews’ in the USA. I can recall the Rabi’s wife bringing food to my mother after my father’s death even though my mother was from the old Czarist bunch of Russians.

If Israel’s now virtually surrounded by radicalized Muslim fundies, it’s largely their own fault, having lobbied so long and hard for the demolition of Saddam’s secular regime in Iraq. Israel pushed over the first domino, unleashing uncontained muslim fanaticism on themselves and the rest of the world. They thought they were getting payback for those scud attacks in the first Gulf War. I hope they’re satisfied.

If you look carefully, Russia and Israel have been getting along for well more than a decade now. Passport travel between is very easy and Russian Jews have a notable presence in Israel.

Russia launches many Israeli satellites including defense purposed units.

The few disagreements are negotiated to solution by adults.

I’ve always wondered about the cognitive dissonance that neoconservatives must experience when they see their hero Avigdor Lieberman buddy up with their bugbear Putin. It must be enough to make Bill Kristol’s thick head spin like a top.

>Israel abstained from a vote in the UN censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Good on Israel. There was and is no “invasion of Ukraine” by Russia.

While the US is backing islamic terrorism and the moslem brotherhoodlums, Russia at least attempts to keep the 7th century barbarians at bay.

RE: Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other.

So, Israel is going to stay silent on the Ukrainian encroachment?

What if Russia does the same to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania? Israel will stay silent too?

Perhaps Israel sees this as a continuation of the "Arab Spring." If so, that would explain their vote. And I believe that is what is occurring...

I think it's a much simpler explanation.

I think Israel has made a reasonable choice to change the geopolitical relationship with the US as the direct result of the anti-Israel Obama Administration.
