IZYUM (Ukraine) (AFP) - Ukraine pushed tanks toward a flashpoint eastern city on Tuesday to quash a separatist surge backed by Moscow -- a high-risk operation that was sharply condemned by the Kremlin but won Washington's support.

Ukrainian forces set up a cement road barrier and began checking traffic leading to Slavyansk while fighters and attack helicopters circled overhead.
The economically depressed industrial city of 100,000 has effectively been under the control of separatist gunmen since Saturday.
"They must be warned that if they do not lay down their arms, they will be destroyed," Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) General Vasyl Krutov told a group of reporters tracking the sudden tank movements.

Wouldn't a good compromise be to Have Ukraine (and of course, the US, since it is seemingly in the business of spending $$$) pay for all Russians currently in Ukraine to pack, move, and purchase a property in Crimea, or Russia, for that matter? I think we all know how Putin would respond, and it wouldn't make him look particularly good, in my opinion, since I don't think he is concerned about ethnic Russians as much as he is land grabbing.

A much more limited response for much more violent riots brought a widespread condemnation on ousted Ukrainian president.
I guess it is ok to grab guns and use military against own citizens as soon as they are ‘good’ guys (Obama backed) who are doing that. /s
I think they could go for this, but it would be VERY expensive.
