American Companies Think The Unthinkable — Leaving The U.S.
IBD ^ | 04/15/2014

Walgreen, America's venerable drug-store chain, is thinking the unthinkable: relocating to Europe. Not because it sees growth and opportunity there, but because of onerous taxes here in the U.S. It's an ominous trend.

The Financial Times of London calls it "one of the largest tax inversions ever." That is, a company seeking to avoid punitive taxes in one market by moving to another.

No doubt the FT is right. And after its recent $16 billion takeover of Swiss-based Alliance Boots, it would be easy for Walgreen to remake itself as a Swiss company.

If it did, the Democratic Party's liberals would no doubt call Walgreen unpatriotic for wanting to lessen its tax burden. In fact, they are responsible for an economic environment so hostile to capital and investment that companies now find it intolerable.

As we've noted, corporate tax rates in the U.S. are the highest among the developed nations. The average rate in America in 2013 was 39.13%; for all of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development nations, it stood at 28.2%.

In short, being headquartered here is a major competitive disadvantage for American firms.

Of course this is all true. I get it. But Has Walgreens and every other company/their stockholders ect. looking to leave contributed to Democrats campaign/election funds?

Then they should sit down, STFU and eat their peas like the good little cronyists they are. It’s really that simple.

How many of the owners, officers, board of directors, stock holders, etc. supported Barack Obama’s election and reelection?

For any that did, they are getting their just reward.

How many supported or did not oppose Obamacare?

For any that did enable -passage, they are getting their just reward.

Walgreen's is only following the lib playbook. Foul your nest by supporting leftist causes and when the state isnt to your liking anymore move to a business friendly one and repeat.

Now apparently with the damage done here its time to take down Switzerland. Maybe their shareholders can get the gun laws changed and disarm the Swiss...

No doubt. And they will certainly Californicate the Swiss eventually.

They are like a virus. They behave EXACTLY like a virus.

In the 50s they threw out all the Commies. Literally. Took ‘em to the border and kicked their ass out. Told them not to try to come back or they would be executed. Harsh but effective.

After REV 1, the Torries in NYC were put on boats and sent away too. How about we do that with the libs, illegals, takers etc who have decimated the country today by siding with the financial enemy of the country.

Pinochet threw all of his into the sea. Appears to have been just as effective. At least until this last election.

I am not advocating any personal injury or even “re-education” camps. They should just be advised to go to those “socialist Utopias” they so admire. Say Cuba or Venezuala.

China just so happens to still be communist.

China has the largest exports, on the entire planet.

Larger than America’s.

The thing is, America has made China huge. Huge.

Meanwhile we fall ever further.
