There was another article which said it had to do with huge oil reserves. So is it oil or solar? Or both?

There's also stories about it having to do with water rights. Supposedly the feds are using eminent domain to buy up land that has water rights. Then they strip the land of its water rights (which they keep for themselves) and then sell the land back to suckers.

Nevada is a microcosm of the US: A bunch of Californians moved in because of the cheap housing; people who have no connection with the history or mindset of Nevadans. These people now outnumber the original Nevadans. They will want their water and their oil and their solar power and they won't give two beans about what happens to the original farmers, ranchers, and settlers.

This is partly due to the comparatively liberal attitudes of the newcomers. But it is also partly due to the "conservatives" who made Nevada such a great business environment that it enticed so many people to move there.

In any case, so long as the neon lights stay on and the shrimp cocktails remain chilled in Vegas they'll be happy.

Stop oil, promote solar.
