Green Energy Subsidies Pass Senate Finance Committee by Voice Vote

Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) did propose an amendment to eliminate all of the energy subsidies within the package, but it only garnered the support of five other Republicans–Senators Burr, Enzi, Hatch, Isakson, and Roberts. Democrats voted down the amendment, along with support from GOP Senators Grassley, Crapo, Cornyn, Thune, and Portman. Ultimately, the underlying bill was adopted unanimously by voice vote.

Hence, both Republicans and Democrats profess a desire to clean up the tax code and close “loopholes,” yet they can’t even let a pair of subsidies that have already expired remain at rest.

For all the talk about incorrigible bipartisanship on Washington, most of the work on a committee level is quite harmonious. Sadly, it usually benefits the corporate lobbyist and permanent political class.

Tell me again how Democrats and Republicans are different? What a bunch of tools. No doubt they were rewarded handsomely by those who run these green "businesses".

When this legislation was just passing out of the House and on to the Senate, I read an article in the Houston paper about it.

This article stated that close to 80% of US windmills are located in House republican districts, and, that close to 75% of US manufacturers manufacturing windmill components are located in House republican districts.

This article also stated that the House republicans purposely left the windmill tax credit out of the legislation so that Grassley could have a role in, and take credit for, putting the windmill tax credit in, because that would politically beneficial to him at home in Iowa, where windmills are an economic boom.
