"With the inevitable growth in the number of electric cars on the road there is increasing concern that the silence generated by electric vehicles could be deadly for pedestrians in urban environments.

To this end, President Obama has signed a law that would make it a requirement to add a sound-generating device to all electric and hybrid vehicles by 2014."
