Suspected Fort Hood shooter dead; situation ongoing
CNN ^ | Wednesday, April 2, 2014 | Dana Ford

Posted on 04/02/2014 4:49:47 PM PDT by Star Traveler

(CNN) -- A suspected shooter at Fort Hood, Texas, is dead, but the situation is still considered an active scene, multiple U.S. officials told CNN on Wednesday.

"There has been a shooting at Fort Hood and injuries are reported. Emergency crews are on the scene. No further details are known at this time," the Army post said in an evening statement.

Fort Hood's official Twitter feed asked that all personnel on post shelter in place. Sirens were going off.

President Barack Obama has been briefed on the incident and will continue to receive updates, according to a White House press pool report. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel also was monitoring the situation.

Deke Jones, with Scott & White Memorial Hospital, told CNN his facility was receiving patients.

"I don't have a number," he said.

Sheriff's deputies from Bell County and state troopers are assisting by securing the area around the post, according to Bell County Sheriff's Lt. Donnie Adams.

Authorities in the town of Killeen, just outside the gates, are also standing by to help, said Mayor Dan Corbin.

"It is unclear what is going on right now," Corbin said. "We have been in touch with appropriate personnel, we are standing by with our police and ambulances, if needed. We are very concerned. Fort Hood is always there for us and we want to be there for them."

He continued: "They are used to dealing with combat situations, and I'm sure they are very capable of handling this."

Yes. To me, it’s one of the reasons the immigration question is more complicated than some people think.

Do you think that PTSD has become over-diagnosed? This doesn’t mean that it isn’t sometimes legitimate.
We do know that lots more people are on disability now, a d something has to be used to get them there. I’m thinking mostly of people who don’t have military service.
Again, I am not trying to cast aspersions on real sufferers.
I just hear the term thrown around my building a lot. A lot of residents here are on disability, have drug and alcohol issues etc.

This is why I believe that everybody has to be extremely careful posting stuff about breaking stories of this magnitude. Even the professional media gets things wrong, though, so it’s hard.

At one point they were saying there might be two shooters, too. This seems to happen a lot in these cases, and it turns out that there was only one.

I am simply not going to leave home without it ever again. I am going packing, I don’t care what the sign at the doors say. I am going in, armed. Even the security guys at our church are armed. When we pull security, we don’t carry mace or a billy-club, we carry a Glock, or some like type weapon. I know many women in our church who have heavy purses because of the cannon’s they have inside!!! Enough is enough. Satanic evil doers are driving these murdering thugs. THIS WE DEFEND!!!

Whenever you have breaking news on a quickly developing story ... the reporters will receive a lot of misinformation from different sources that they have. This misinformation is typical because the story is developing and not everyone actually knows what the situation is, and even the sources have been told wrong information, because other people “just don’t know for sure” yet.

Actually, I’ve seen that it takes about one or two days for reporters to gather the actual facts of the matter. That’s just the way it goes.

I’m an RN and am not stupid. My comment was for those who have said that he had a combat related injury and that the military ignores those who need help.

I watched a guy I knew back in 1979 go from a high evals E-4 sailor to an E-1 in less than a year. Why? Looking back he was likely Bipolar. He'd told me about his older brother who had killed himself He got no help. A few lifers did get their daily jollies tormenting him so they could write him up. BTW PTSD is an injury in every real sense. They may have tried to help the guy at Ft Hood but let me ask you this. Ever seen Serotonin Syndrome develop after a person is given antidepressants?

Thank-you for this post I have been VERY concerned about the effect of
these medications for a VERY long time! I am not saying they affect ALL
people the same way, however the ONE common demoniator in ALL of these mass shootings are medications for ADHD, depression, ect. ALL
of them were on!!!!

I don't know but I doubt it. The symptoms of PTSD are long term and a decent therapist will pick up on a fake. BTW a lot of PTSD patients self medicate. Sad to say they often use alcohol or drugs to deal with it.

I've had before it and I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy. My PTSD happened a few years after I got out. My first wife age 23 died of a massive heart attack. I met a woman at work later and began dating. She collapsed and nearly died as I was taking her to the ER. She never walked again and has almost died a half dozen times since after we got married. My step daughter was in a bad car wreck which I arriver on scene and thought she was dead. A few months after that I was rear ended by a lady and thought her baby died. Then about the same time my sensory processing system began to deteriorate causing seizures and General Anxiety Disorder all at the same time. This was events in about a 8 year time frame.

I've sat in therapy sessions with SF vets who did Central America Ops and a Gulf from Gulf War One they too had PTSD. The guy in Central America ops had to make a choice no soldier ever wants to make to save his platoon. They were in a swamp and spotted by a woman.

You hear about it more because people are more educated now.

Unless people have seen it they generally don't believe it. Most medical professionals including ones writing prescriptions for antidepressants do not know about Serotonin Syndrome. I had a doctor I was showing a print out too call it rubbish. His patient with it was my wife taking Zoloft and Trazodone.

20 years ago at onset of General Anxiety and PTSD I was being given antidepressants. I'd get headaches, upset stomach, agitated. One evening I found myself pointing my finger at my head like a gun. The doctors insisted I take antidepressants. I finally put my foot down and said Xanax only. Then I found a doctor who knew how to prescribe it correctly so the Xanax worked all the time. Most doctors have a calf when they find out I've taken Xanax for 20 years. I tell them so what my wife has for 28 years LOL.

About 8 years later my wife developed Serotonin Syndrome. She thought she was Tess on Touched By an Angel.. She also thought she was seeing the devil. It could have easily been me a few years earlier. The doctors were not catching on. I diagnosed her with it myself.

Yes as a kid {I'm 56 BTW} I was said to have ADD ADHD but I did not take meds for it. I didn't have it rather I had sensory processing damaged now called C.A.P.D. in other words Neurological Damage that made me more susepictable to having Serotonin Syndrome if given antidepressants.

Both my wife and my own medical records now have an alert saying no antidepressants or Serotonin level raising medications.

Milley is an ideal stooge for Obama’s anti-American fag forces. Stood up there and denounced the idea of concealed-carry, insisting that police response is sufficient to deal with people like Hasan and Lopez. What contradictions did you key on?

VERY, VERY, informative Thank-you once again SO VERY HAPPY you
two are doing well could have been a VERY bad outcome for one or both
of you!! Very astute of you to do the research yourself, wish many of the
parents of the kids put on these meds would have taken notice to the
changes before they shot up their schools, movie theaters, ect!

I believe Ritalin is good for the kids and adults who actually have ADD ADHD. The actual number who have it? I'm betting 10% of current diagnoses actually do. I do not believe enough of an exam is done beforehand to rule out more likely disorders first. I believe antidepressants can help some forms of depression, OCB, and anxiety. Again I do not believe enough effort goes into finding out if their is an underlying neurological disorder that these symptoms are a secondary symptom too and that is where the danger lies.

Unless a kid shows real convincing symptoms of a serious disorder like Bipolar etc they should not be given drugs especially antidepressants.

I remember that POW had to be secured in the arms room
as far back as 1969, so I think it predates the Clinton era.

It’s strictly a Bill Clinton idea. He is to blame for Ft. Hood AND 9/11, and make no mistake about either one.

He’s as evil a man as his wife, Reid, Zero and Pelosi are.

I don’t know why you are angry with me. First off I don’t have cable and don’t give a damn what the media says or thinks on this issue. Any number of Vets sitting in the waiting room at the VA will tell you horror stories about the red tape and bureaucracy. Finally PTSD is real. We sent these young men and women into hell and now they are on a waiting list for treatment or used as guinea pigs experimenting with drugs. Many times the problem is worse with the drugs used to treat them. It doesn’t help that we have military bases with unarmed personnel. That’s a soft target for any wacko or jihadist. At no time was I defending his actions. No excuse for murder.

The spokesperson said that Lopez "had a traumatic brain injury" and minutes later, said that Lopez was not a wounded warrior. Well, if you have a traumatic brain injury, that's a wound is it not? Unless I heard him wrong but he was clear that there was a TBI. Austin Fox 7 news.

He also said "wasn't ptsd". Then we learn today that Lopez was on Ambien prescribed for what???? Spokes commander said Lopez was being tested not diagnosed. What were the meds for that are the forefront of this story on Drudge this afternoon. If it wasn't ptsd last night, it appears that after Lopez is dead, it's ptsd today. Diagnosed ptsd although unable to complete the testing bec he was dead.

That's definitely an Obama Commander.
