RE :”Yes....I call deer “pests”....except in the wild”

The Dems who rule us here (Maryland) are decimating every last forest in the area at an alarming rate, for new neighborhoods.

It started here in the late 1990s and they still show no restraint.
I complained about one at a county planning hearing on it once but the outcome was fixed.

Their payoff is lots more tax $$$ and little or no opposition to tax increases.

Out here, their passion is just the opposite - to declare more and more land off-limits to development and to increase density in developed areas by subdividing lots into two narrow lots, and turning single-family neighborhoods into apartment and condo neighborhoods. So we are getting lots of skinny houses being built dangerously close to each other (fire hazard), and lots of ugly apartments painted bark blue and mustard-yellow.

In the 90s, there was a study by the Smithsonian, where they compared wild areas with deer and where deer were blocked out (West Virginia, I think). They found that deer reduce the number of small mammals and birds each by about 90%.

The study also noted that the are places where there has been no young tree growth in over 20 years as the deer eat all the saplings. Deer also don’t really wander far until they hit overpopulation and move to find food.
