NAPLES — Sarah Palin is heading back to Southwest Florida.
Palin, the former governor of Alaska and the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, is scheduled to attend a fundraiser for District 19 congressional candidate Lizbeth Benacquisto on Thursday. The invitation-only event is being called a backyard barbecue. Donors can pay $500 per person to attend, according to a copy of the invitation obtained by the Daily News.
Erin Isaac, a spokeswoman for Benacquisto, confirmed Palin would be in town for a fundraiser.
“We anticipate a tremendous turnout for Gov. Palin and Lizbeth Benacquisto,” she said.
Benacquisto, a state senator and Senate Majority Leader, is expected to fly back to Southwest Florida on Thursday for the evening event. The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to last about 90 minutes.
Palin has endorsed Benacquisto, a Fort Myers Republican.
This isn’t Palin’s first visit to Southwest Florida. In 2011, she spoke at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speaker Series. She also headlined a rally at Germain Arena just weeks before the 2008 presidential election.
Most recently, Palin stopped by the Barnes & Noble at Waterside Shops in November to promote her newest book.
Benacquisto is one of four Republicans — including Curt Clawson of Bonita Springs, Michael Dreikorn of Bokeelia and Paige Kreegel of Estero and Punta Gorda — battling it out for their party’s nomination in the congressional District 19 special primary election. The primary is April 22; the special general election is June 24.
