4:15 p.m. ET all across the dial. I’m looking forward to this the way I am to dental work, or to a new season of “The Walking Dead.” Our media, of course, is more excited. Here’s what landed in my inbox a few hours ago, fresh off the news that the White House has kinda sorta reached seven million sign-ups.
There’s no suspense about O’s announcement. Pelosi revealed earlier this afternoon that they have in fact reached seven million according to whatever definition of “enrollment” HHS is using right now. As you’ll see below, Carney was even more specific at today’s briefing, reminding us yet again that the White House is fully capable of producing up-to-the-minute data about enrollment when it’s in their political interest to do so. The big reason to watch O’s presser is to see if they saved any tidbits for him: If in fact the risk pool has improved and now consists of ~40 percent or so of young adults, or if they have to reason believe that a majority of new enrollees were previously uninsured, that’s news that Obama himself might want to break. Otherwise, this is just his way of using the bully pulpit to make things a bit easier for Democratic incumbents. Voters will spend the next seven months hearing from Republicans how the law is a trainwreck in progress. This is Obama’s big chance to reassure fencesitters that, with the enrollment target now reached, HHS is “on track” for good things. All is proceeding as hath been prophesied by our central planners/seers.
I think Phil Klein’s right as usual. The takeaway from today isn’t the precise number but rather the fact that a lot of people are now dependent upon this law, which makes the task of repeal a heavier lift than it seemed at New Year’s.
When Obama made his now-infamous promise that if people liked their health care plans they could keep them, he did so because he understood that any significant changes to the health care system would cause disruptions, so he needed to reassure Americans that their plans wouldnt be affected by what he was proposing. It was a clear lie, but one that was rooted in an understanding of political realities.
If Republicans had taken over the White House last year and pursued the repeal of Obamacare, they could have done so at a time when the laws beneficiaries were mostly theoretical. Now, however, Republicans will be facing the same problem Obama did. Only more so, because they’ve invested so much in the idea that nobody can lose coverage as a result of health care legislative changes.
The launch phase of the law was a test to see if Democrats could get the public to more or less accept the new system as a replacement for the old one by participating in it en masse. That phase is now over. Here’s the new phase:
Whatever the final #, any GOP health care proposal will now have to grapple with millions of Obamacare beneficiaries http://t.co/ZrbFbPP62V

@philipaklein @allahpundit On the other hand, Ds willing to march off a political cliff to pass. Would Rs be unwilling to do same to repeal?
— Sean Trende (@SeanTrende) April 1, 2014
@SeanTrende @allahpundit Do you really have to ask that? Of course they wouldn't be willing to.
— Philip Klein (@philipaklein) April 1, 2014
Of course they wouldn’t. No wonder the White House tech team is popping the champagne today. Here’s Carney taking a little victory lap of his own, and naturally jabbing at Boehner and the Republicans in doing so.
Repealing Obama should be on the table. We have over 300 million people in this country and 7 million is supposed to be a victory?
The ACA’s purpose was to make sure that the supposedly 30 to 45 million ( the numbers keep changing ) uninsured WILL be insured.
So, the most important question is this how many of these 30 to 45 million are insured?
That little piece of sh*t just preempted Judge Judy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same old same old. The democrats know how to use the ministry of propaganda to win an election. Their strategy has been laid bare for all to see and the final phase of it was begun today.
Step 1, Have Dingy Harry and Schmucky hold a press conference telling the MSM that Obamacare will not be an issue in this election. Repeat, NOT be an issue. Did you get that MSM or do we have to take the time from our busy schedules to have private meetings with you to explain it.
Step 2, tell the MSM what the issues will be, namely, a bunch of populist clap trap called economic policies sprinkled with some war on women.
Step 3, set expectations low about Obamacare, say, 7 million signed up.
Step 4, announce 7 million have signed up. Yo, MSM, we told you Obamacare would not be an issue so get to work.
Step 5, pop the champagne, Obamacare is grand, cook up some polls, everyone loves it. Well at least everyone we surveyed who told us they loved it in advance of us surveying them. Move along, nothing to see here, next poll please.
Step 6, watch the weak inside the Beltway Republicans accept the MSM mantra about running on Obamacare being a loser which will anger the “moderates”. Watch them play democrat light in an attempt to win an election.
Step 7, see the Republicans attack Ted Cruz and a few others for refusing to go along and actually calling “BS’ on the numbers. Dare I say we could see an attack from the White Board Man.
Step 8, Majority Leader Reid.
Nope! We turned the volume down and are listening to music until this April Fool’s Day joke is over and they return to regular programming.
What bovine excrement.
6million lost insurance and (claimed) 7million signed up, so after nearly a billion overall spent one million signed up, how many have paid?
The Brown Clown lies.
History will prove it.
I reject Klein’s premise. You side with the majority, not 7 Million. But he presupposes that the 7 Million are going to be happy with what they have. Are they? Are their premiums lower than their old plans? Hmmm.
The other thing Klein misses is that Obamacare has not been fully implemented. Delay all they want but at the end of the day 7 Million, even 20 million ain’t getting it done. When the chickens finally do come home to roost and employer plans are canned I think you may find the backlash a bit too much to resist repealing this law.
April fools day!
The problem is that now those 7 million have health insurance and most other people haven't been all that disadvantaged by it. So Obama can claim a victory.
The HOR RINOs who wanted to use it as a campaign issue rather than get rid of it through defunding caused this to happen. It won't be a good campaign issue. Why? Nobody's going to switch over to vote for a bunch of ineffective whiners who couldn't or wouldn't get rid of Obamacare, even holding the pursestrings.
I'll never vote for a RINO again. I'm so fed up, I might even vote for a dem instead of a RINO just to get the backstabbers out of DC.
I listened to as a much of him that I could bear. There was a lot of clapping at the beginning. Must have been the MSM welcoming him.
What can I say about us stupid Americans?
Out of all the people I know, this is how many have signed up:
2
They are a husband and wife. Joint income of about 120k. She is in the early stages of MS and he has fairly regular (and serious) health problems.
These are the type of people whom, between the two of them, will eat up the premiums of 30 young healthy people annually. If most of those who have signed up (and paid) are like them, the ACA is going to need a whole lot of money.
BTW. They went with the gold plan which is astronomically expensive. There is only one reason anyone would choose to do this and that is because they intend on using the **LL out of it.
Probably half of them have signed up but not paid up...It’s all bull crap from the Head Bull Crapper!
cooked numbers and corrupt misinformation
