Chicago police on Sunday said they expect a judge to dismiss a case against two men whom officers arrested last week but later learned were community activists canvassing door to door.
Felipe Hernandez, 20, and Kevin Tapia, 19, were arrested Tuesday in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, where their employer, Grassroots Collaborative, said they were helping people sign up for health care under the Affordable Care Act in the area around 5500 South Normandy Avenue.
The two men were charged with misdemeanor soliciting unlawful business after police received a 911 call from a resident, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Adam Collins. When officers arrived, the men could not provide ID from the organization, he said, and could not tell officers the name of their supervisor.
Collins, who said the Southwest Side has seen a rash of door-to-door scams where criminals posing as government employees have been burglarizing the elderly, said officers learned of the mens affiliation with Grassroots Collaborative the following day.

No officer, you don’t understand. These guys are COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS! They’re ALLOWED to rip old people off for their life savings.
If the cops won’t do anything when you have a trespasser who refuses to leave, its peanut butter jelly time.
When officers arrived, the men could not provide ID from the organization, he said, and could not tell officers the name of their supervisor.
Sounds fishy to me...
Ping.
Wonder how many DUmmies got scammed by door to door scams related to this sort of thing?
Also, no ID, can’t name a supervisor?
Hmm..
Buffalo Bill basement of fun time.
Get them in an easily sequestered room, smile, lock them in.
And then tell them “it puts the lotion on its skin.”
Naah.
Cops would have no sense of humor about that one.
Sadly.
If the kids name was Adam Whiteboy and he was ‘peddling aluminum siding’ or ‘magazines’ without a PERMIT, letter or picture ID we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
If NOT arrested and/or charged he would at least have been told to ‘go back home’ or else....
Of course all the oBamaScare people will say they didn’t think they needed ID because they were supposed to vote afterwards...or something like that.
PEOPLE AGAINST ID....a min wage (this type used to be) job passing out flyers in a NEIGHBORHOOD requires ID....
Isn’t that considered as Racist as wanting someone to ID themselves at the Voting Booth?????
Madness...the Madness...
What these cops fail to realize is that some of these scams operate with the full backing and weight of the executive branch.
You are free to call me what you want - but that character - if calling himself a salesman would NOT be stepping foot in my door.
I used to ‘dress better and neater while giving Driveway estimates and/or Paving 20 miles of road.
My ‘hat’ is virtually glued to my head BUT when entering someones home it comes off, as does vigorously wiping off my shoes - with me saying “No thanks, no need for me to come in”.
Also if that ‘clown’ made it to the table, my one hand would NOT be grasping my cheek...
Hmmmm people in Chicago getting ripped off by various kinds of thieves.??.................
Oh! well their used to it...
Even the ones they elect are thieves..
Hard to muster any sympathy for those folks..
Tal vez no speaka engliss. Lo siento.

If Barry had a son....
