My theory is that the closer you can get your search area to a populated land mass the more likely you’ll find debris you can announce as another “sighting of debris”.

And CNN actually shows the trash being picked up by a net and they have to “Examine” it..seriously, if they spot something and it needs to be examined its NOT from the plane..doesn’t take a genius to figure out if a piece of the wreckage has been spotted or not
