My husband, mother and I had a chance to visit Kenya some years ago. I had always THOUGHT that "African-Americans" were, as they claimed, BLACK people.
Boy were/are they wrong. BLACK people have BLACK skin, not the cafe au lait skin that AMERICAN blacks have.

African-Americans have WAY more white in them than they think or care to admit to.
There was an "African-American" couple along with us and they DID look WHITE compared to native Kenyans. They looked as confused as I felt.
African-Americans who don't like the atmosphere here regarding them SHOULD take a little visit to the "dark continent" and REALLY see their "roots." African-AMERICANS were/are/will always be the lucky ones to wind up HERE in America.

We DO have our warts and problems...but it's better to be "poor" here than to be middle class in ANY of those third world sewers.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

At my parish there is a family or a small group of families who have come from Nigeria. Across town, there is a thriving Ghanian community.

I hate to break it to you, but all black people aren’t the same color regardless of the amount of racial mixing you seem to perceive. I used to live in Namibia, and if you thought that Khoisan, Ovambo, Himba, and Kovango people looked anything alike, you’d need to get your eyes checked. These people run the range from extremely dark skin to folks that are almost paler than me - and I’m of Scot descent. And that doesn’t even include mixed race people like Bastars and Coloureds.

It is religion, culture and education that determine a society’s values. They are not inborn. The fact that many Americans are mixed race can do nothing to change them, white or black. Only education in the scriptures and individual surrender to God can change a person’s heart.

Africa is not uniformly black, and there are precious few African-Americans with any blood at all from Kenya, since it faces the opposite shore of Africa from the Atlantic slave trade. (However, Arab traders certainly DID penetrate deeply into Kenya.)

Most slaves came from West Africa, sold by Arab conquerers. There certainly is, however, much European blood among modern “African”-Americans.

There was an episode of “Who do you think you are” that featured Emmitt Smith. You may or may not be aware of this TV show, where they delve into a person’s ancestry to try and trace back and find previously unknown branches of their family tree and family history.

One of the first things the genealogist did was to run his DNA to see if that would give her any clues. It turned out that he was 82% African, 18% European. She was surprised at this result — she said out of all the DNA samples that she had run on a black client, he had the highest percentage of African that she had ever seen.
