'It was his last joyride': MH370 pilot was upset over wife moving out and in 'no state of mind to be flying', reveals his long-time friend

MH370 pilot devastated by his marriage breakdown

He warns Zaharie could have taken MH370 on a 'last joyride' and that the crew wouldn't have known something was wrong 'until it was too late’

It follows reports the doomed flight climbed to 43,000ft moments before disappearing from radar

It stayed at that altitude for 23 minutes, but oxygen would have run out after just 12 minutes, rendering passengers and crew unconscious

Expert says plane would have flown on until it ran out of fuel

While families of victims of MH370 are expected to start arriving in Perth as soon as the debris is confirmed as belonging to the plane

The Australian Prime Minister warned the search can't go on indefinitely

The pilot of doomed flight MH370 was distraught over his wife’s decision to move out of their family home and could have taken the plane for a ‘last joyride’ before it crashed into the southern Indian Ocean killing all 239 people on board, says a long-time friend of the pilot.

The friend, also a pilot, said Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah had been left rattled by his family problems, and didn’t appear to be in the right state of mind to be flying. He warned that it was ‘very possible that neither the passengers nor the other crew on-board knew what was happening until it was too late’.

‘He's one of the finest pilots around and I'm no medical expert, but with all that was happening in his life Zaharie was probably in no state of mind to be flying,’ he told the NZ Herald on the condition of anonymity.

I can just imagine some insane pilot locking the copilot and everyone else out of the cockpit, and then talking, singing and telling jokes to them for seven hours over the intercom before the plane runs out of fuel and crashes.

A Boeing 777 can only stay at 43k ft for 23 minutes?

Any FReepers with more information confirm or deny?

Um, don’t planes have compressors (I think they’re part of the engines) that compress the air outside, which has just as high an oxygen content?

Or did I miss the speculative assumption where he shut these down or depressurized the aircraft, so that stored oxygen was necessary?

He couldn't just stay home and blow his brains out, he had to take 300 people with him.

If the cabin is pressurized, the plane can stay at whatever altitude indefinitely (barring running out of fuel of course).

So the fact that they had 4 people onboard with fake passports is just a coincidence? This doesn’t pass the smell test...

This is how that intelligence was derived ... :-) ... I don’t think you can find a SINGLE REPORT that is written from the “first person” - which says, “I saw it there.”

They were all relying on, “My contact at the CIA, says that one of their contacts in the Middle East, talked to a guy over in India, who has a brother-in-law in Afhanistan, whose sister in Pakistan, has a child who was going to the market, and his friend at the market told him that his father SAW THE PLANE!” ... LOL ...

Sometimes, that’s how “intelligence” works. SOMEONE actually did see it! ... :-) ...

well, considering how long did it take to get to that point. after 12 minutes, at that height, with no oxygen. people in the plane will die shortly. maybe the suicidal pilot did that near the end of the fuel supply, to have everyone “die peacefully” before the plane crashes.

we’ll probably not know the truth until they recover the blackboxes

What a nightmare... those poor folks.

Just goes to show you - when someone wants to take others with them, they sure as hell don’t need a gun to do it.

This pilot, if the story is accurate, is a mass murderer... with an “Assault Plane”..

How many passengers were on board?

it is all speculation... "... was probably in no state of mind to be flying..." as of yet, they do not know...

Pure speculation that it was the “distraught” pilot who killed all those people. Just remember that the Malaysians have been very cagey. If there was negligence or a security lapse, the Chinese will be bringing immense pressure and the government may fall. Many corrupt insiders will see their illicit revenue streams evaporate. They may also face prison. Far better to blame the senior pilot who was a supporter of the political opposition.

A 777 is a pressurized plane.

I saw a 777 pilot being interviewed say that the plane would not have any trouble flying at 45,000 ft.

“This doesn’t pass the smell test...”

I’m willing to bet on any given day there are hundreds of people flying with false papers. It is probably a lot easier to get a false passport than it is to get a real one, especially if your name is Mohamed, Mustapha, or Mahmoud.

Can you imagine being born in a country that simply doesn’t have niceties like birth certificates or other id? We could not correct a state clerk’s mistake on my 97 year old mother’s driver’s license and therefore could not get her an ID card. We’d been back to the state office six times. Finally the clerk said, “Do you have a fishing license?” We said no. He made her a fishing license and then used that as her id. Crazy.
