I started with unfiltered Canadian Export A and Pall Mall, at Boy Scout Summer Camps, in the late 50s. A puff here and one there. Didn't really start until college in the mid-60s. Dad had Philip Morris w/ charcoal filter at home, but at 13 I could slick my hair back and buy cigs (26¢/pack at Walgreen's in early 60s) and beer/booze at local liquor stores (I was very popular at all HS levels for that ability). Heh.

My dad used to work part time at night at a liquor store.
He had heart issues and retired from his main job.
Shortly after that, the liquor store owner died
and dad bought the store from his estate.
I had just turned 21 and went to work for him
in the evenings and on the weekends.
I was very popular at the local college.
