Journalistic icon Bob Woodward has been in hot water with the Obama Administration and its more enthusiastic apologists for a while now. Hes not going to get any more popular with that crowd after his appearance on Fox News Sunday last weekend, in which he related a conversation with a doctor he described as a very knowledgeable, very involved supporter of ObamaCare who nevertheless described it as similar to a car stuck in first gear.
When Woodward asked this ObamaCare-supporting doctor when he thought second gear might kick in, the response was, Honestly, years! because, to continue the clunker car analogy, the transmission is in the shop for repairs.
This led to a remarkable burst of blubbering from one of our dwindling supply of ObamaCare apologists, Juan Williams, who sobbed that nobody was trying to count up enrollment numbers or calculate sustainability when Mitt Romney rolled out his health care plan in Massachusetts, and those mean old green-eyeshade-wearing Republicans should just put their evil accounting witchery on hold and give ObamaCare a few years to creak and shudder into second gear.
Which nicely illustrates one of the core idiocies animating ObamaCare apologists: theyve arrogantly insisted on refusing to accept the very obvious point that Massachusetts is not equivalent to the entire United States of America. A program that more-or-less works in one state (and there have always been plenty of critics, both locally and nationally, who think less is a better description of how well RomneyCare works) can prove both Constitutionally offensive and unsustainable on the national level. Its such an obvious point that it seems ludicrous to have to explain it to adult citizens of the United States, over and over again. Mitt

“2nd gear” doesn’t exist. I wish people would wise up.
Correct. There are only two cut gears to mesh in that transmission and they are grinding all of us up because they are two entirely different pitches.
As an Obamacare skeptic from the beginning, I'd call Obamacare a "giant, unguided missile". If only it were a car stuck in first gear (or reverse gear). The reality is that it's much, much worse than most people think.
I question libs -
If Obamacare were actually designed to destroy the economy,
how would it have been implemented differently than it has been?
Also, if Obama himself were intent on the destruction of America, how would he be acting differently than he is?
There are no gears working period.
It’s a “soapbox” racer and all it can do is go downhill.
Neighbor of mine provides insurance to small businesses. Calls himself "Their HR Dept", lol. He's a pretty good guy, level-headed, not prone to hyperbole.
He says that the damage caused by ObamaCare will be unimaginable. Plenty of small places - think, a couple of partners and some office staff, or maybe a plumbing/AC/pest control place - are just choosing to retire or go out of business, rather than cope with all the regulations.
His words, not mine. He was worried that he was headed out of business, too.....no more customers.
These kind of places going under won't make the 6pm news. "Joe and John the Plumbers go under, 14 people laid off" isn't national headline material. But, when it happens a few hundred times.....
“Its a soapbox racer and all it can do is go downhill.”
And, instead of a checkered flag and a Finish Line...someone’s built a cinder block wall across the road.
The Obama MO. Not unlike the Obamas' trips and vacations...
ANYTHING nobama is fraud...EVERYTHING!
More like thousands of times.
And no one will know how many new small businesses were never opened because of this.....
This whole thing was never designed to work. Its designed to destroy the health insurance industry so it can be replaced with single payer.
Yep.
I've seen it first hand, in my family. One guy is closing (closed, actually) a Veternary Clinic - a few partners, with a double handful of techs and office staff, all out of work or retired. One of my docs packed it in, and decided to be a computer geek and work in IT. Another one is planning to quit completely and move to New Zealand.
Heck, my dad - for years - only worked a few months a year as a consultant. His opinion? "After a certain point, I hand over 2/3 of what I make to the government (self-employment tax is a killer). Why bother?" At the end, he retired early to play with his grandkids, which was a whole lot more fun for him. :-)
I asked him if his lifestyle changed at all. "Not much", was his reply. "Maybe a little less travel than I'd like, but the TSA has made me hate flying on airplanes now, anyway."
Obamacare is the mistake that liberals have made, over and over, since I can remember. Smart people don't need to be doctors. They can choose other professions with less odious regulations. And more important, people won't *choose* to work. They'll take a life of doing whatever they want over working, every single time.
