William Hague has warned Russia that it faces long-term "isolation and stagnation" over the crisis in Ukraine.

The foreign secretary said it was time to consider a "new state of relations" different to that of the past 20 years.

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, he said the UK and its European allies would not "run scared".

And who is this guy? Because I don’t think we can isolate Russia and I think they know that. And they also know that we know we can’t.

It’s only a matter of time before Eastern Ukraine is annexed.

Russia is looking East to partner with China. If that happens in earnest, it would be incorrect to consider Russia isolated. It would be the further marginalization of the West.

The foreign secretary said it was time to consider a "new state of relations" different to that of the past 20 years.

Russia is seeing growing support and alliances in the ME (where all the oil is). They are also seeing growing alliances in South America (along with China because of... oil). I'm not sure how isolation or different relations with Russia is going to change their objectives and actions. I doubt Europe can break off ties with Russia. Dependence is a crippling thing and Europe is now dependent on Russia. America has nothing to offer Russia and hence, nothing to take away. Hell, America doesn't even have any influence over allies and foes. We are impotent militarily and economically.

I'd say the time is ripe for Russia and China to establish their own dominance in certain geopolitical arenas. And that is bad for America and our national security. But it goes hand in hand with Obama's plan to "take us down a notch". Obama hopes that someday we are able to "punch above our weight." But first we need other nations to be "above our weight."

I look forward to Obama taking his next job at the UN.

The British are not exactly the chaps who once ran an empire.

And the Russians should care about what William Hague says about them? Why?

If only the federal government would “isolate” Red States. We could start to see some prosperity then.

It’s the West who should fear isolation.

Let me see. Russia controls the Gas to Europe. Russia seems to have the upper hand in the Middle East. Russia seems to have a friend in China. Today our “Friend in Afghanistan” Karzai, came out in support of Russia. I wonder who is really becoming isolated? Russia took back Crimea which was a part of Russia for a couple of hundred years. When we annexed Texas and California from Mexico, what was our historical claims? When we claimed territories from American Indians, what was our historical claims? It seems to me that we ought not to be barking too loud.

England celebrated the reunification of Germany, but got their panties in a bunch over the reunification of Russia. Sounds like anti-Slavic racism to me.

It too bad the UK government is "running scared" of all the Third-world pedo rapists they keep letting into the country.

“Russia is looking East to partner with China. If that happens in earnest”

It is already happening...
The Eastern Siberian is almost finished, and recently started pumping Oil direct to China, the gas part should be done this year.

The East-West Highway is already completed in many sections.

And I'm sure once Eastern Ukraine has been annexed, Mr Putin can expect a sternly worded letter from the US, UK and other western nations. That ought to stop him!

“...the gas part should be done this year.”

That’s what I understand, also. Putin is scheduled to be in China in May, and the announcement that China is to be supplied with Russian natural gas will most likely be made during this time period. Also, business will be conducted directly between ruble and yuan. Bye-bye petrodollar? This will have a detrimental impact on us, to the extent yet to be understood.

And maybe the rest of the world doesn’t particularly care for being lectured about homosexuals and global warming by the US.

80% of Ukrainians don't want to be part of Russia.
