Officials Say Missing Malaysia Airlines Plane "Ended in the Southern Indian Ocean"

New satellite data reveals that missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 "ended" its journey in a "remote location" of the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said today.

"This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean," a somber Razak said during a media briefing.

The jet vanished March 8 with 289 people on board after it took off from Kuala Lampur bound for Beijing.

The announcement follows weeks of searches that spanned the South China Sea, Strait of Malacca and finally the south Indian Ocean off of Australia as authorities tried to figure out what happened to the plane.

Just what kind of data and means did they use?? And we're supposed to just believe Malaysia now? I'd like to hear this from the Brits.

I tend to agree with the conclusion, but I don’t buy the logic. Not yet, anyway. I think the guy just wants to wrap it up.

I think you’re right, 100% and that they’ve run out of money.

I don’t think that the Malaysian gubmint WANTS to find that plane. If indeed the plane was flown (and landed) in some hostile country, they don’t want the egg on their face for losing it.

I’ll still take a wait and see attitude before I believe ANYTHING, either way.

However this ends the Malaysian government made fools of themselves in the eyes of the world. If they had asked for international help within the first few days, instead of bumbling around for a week, everyone would have understood. F grade for them.

This is the official statement from Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak :

This evening I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accident investigation branch, or AAIB. They inform me that Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated northern and southern corridors, has been performing further calculations on the data, using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort.

They have been able to shed more light on MH370’s flight path. Based on their new analysis. Inmarsat and the AAIB have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth.

This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

We will be holding a press conference tomorrow with further details. In the meantime, we wanted to inform you of this newest development at earliest opportunity.

We share this information out of a commitment to openness and respect for the families — two principles which have guided this investigation.

Malaysia Airlines has already spoken to the family of the passengers and crew to inform them of this development.

For them the past few weeks have been heartbreaking. I know this news must be hard as well.

I urge the media to respect their privacy and allow them the space they need at this very difficult time.”

If this is correct, there are going to be a lot of armchair theorists in the unemployment line & all the cable news execs will be sobbing.

I wonder if Inmarsat checked for a Dopler shift to detect the direction of the plane.

Are we ever going to see this data obtained by this never before used analysis? This still does not explain what happened. If there is a problem with the 777, we probably will start seeing more of them drop from the sky.

I think we all knew that, in some form or another.

The question is: HOW did it get there, and WHY?................

I think the 777 is fine. The pilot, IMHO, was a nutcase.....................

And a lot of Freepers who made just as big an ass of themselves as the good General did. However, they’ll ignore it and act like they never mentioned a thing.

The Malaysians have been obfuscating from the start. They have much to lose. If the politically well connected young co pilot turns out to be the culprit, the Malaysian government may fall. That would mean many corrupt officials who are skimming huge amounts would lose access to their revenue and may face prison. The public will never learn the truth.

Is there a grassy knoll anywhere in the southern Indian Ocean?

It looks more and more like a murder-suicide, on the part of the pilot........
