Indeed, until approx. a century ago, the word homosexual (or heterosexual) simply did not exist.
There was simply the act of sodomy, which was a sin - and a crime. One either did the act, or one did not. Like theft or lying. It was not considered to define a person and was not an all-encompassing lifestyle or category as it is now - as mentioned, the words did not exist. It took the beginning of psychology to give us the words of homo or heterosexual.
It was “The love that dare not speak its’ name.”
Now it’s the “Love that won’t shut the Hell up.”
