Libya's guns free-for-all fuels region's turmoil (another Somalia)

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — At the heart of the Libyan capital, the open-air Fish Market was once a place where residents went to buy everything from meat and seafood to clothes and pets. Now it's Tripoli's biggest arms market, with tables displaying pistols and assault rifles. Ask a vendor, and he can pull out bigger machine guns to sell for thousands of dollars.

Libya, where hundreds of militias hold sway and the central government is virtually powerless, is awash in millions of weapons with no control over their trafficking. The arms free-for-all fuels not only Libya's instability but also stokes conflicts around the region as guns are smuggled through the country's wide-open borders to militants fighting in insurgencies and wars stretching from Syria to West Africa.

The weapons chaos has alarmed Europe — just a short distance across the Mediterranean — and the United States.

Free Lybians exercising their right to keep and bear arms. No Form 4473s, no background checks, and no arbitrary magazine limits.

And there’s probably more ammo available for sale than we currently have here in the U.S.

We've created another Somalia

WE didn't create it, and the ones who did create it don't care. It was all about grabbing Khaddafi's assets in Italian banks and globalist/elitist control over oil and shipping access particularly in eastern Libya (ie: Benghazi)

Remember back before NATO got permission ot bomb Libya "so the rebels could get home safely"? Before that, foreign enablers of Khaddafi's downfall were advocating a Benghazi independent of Libya (and run by western global interests). And what happened when the rebels who fought the US/EU proxy war were driven out of power for a puppet gov? Benghazi happened.

The wonder is the US/EU architects of this mess won't be tried for crimes against humanity.

Sounds like a good place to roundup enough weapons to equip Ukraine’s recently drafted soldiers.

Why doesn't the Ukraine simply use the US Military like the new approved Libyan government does? There is no reason to risk Ukrainian lives against the Russians.

Thank who?

Thank US/NATO.

No pesky field agents with a conscience to cause problems.

Sounds like the media is lamenting the fact that the peasants are too well armed to allow another dictator into power easily. Don’t you hate it when the people don’t agree with your goals of state supremacy?

Given the ethnic and tribal fault-lines in Libya, and the extremely tribal nature of politics in that location, any strong central state authority is likely going to marginalize and brutalize segments of the population. Unfortunately, an unsteady peace between equally armed parties within the country’s borders may be the least evil of all possible solutions.

Send BATFE to Libya to enforce the Libyan gun control laws. Then we take bets and wait until they come back in body bags.

The title and opening are pure misdirection. The real purpose/gist is to bolster those who think all weapons are bad and that they need to be taken away from the citizens of the world.
