Tina Tchen is Michelle Obama's new chief of staff. The Chicago lawyer served under Valerie Jarrett as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, and will continue as executive director of its Council on Women and Girls. This is Obama's third chief of staff in two years; Tchen follows Susan Sher, who is returning to Chicago, and Jackie Norris, who was replaced in 2009 just four months after the inauguration.
She grew up in Beachwood, Ohio where she graduated from Beachwood High School, where she met Amy Rule, Rahm Emanuel’s wife
Tchen made 13 donations totaling $7,850 to various Democratic political campaigns in 2008. She was also an early supporter of Barack Obama’s run for the U.S. presidency, and was an effective fundraiser for his campaign.
