The senior Army officer prosecuted in the militarys most closely watched sexual assault case, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, has agreed to plead guilty to sharply reduced charges, including that he disobeyed a commanders order, misused his government charge card and mistreated his former mistress, a captain.
In exchange for those pleas, prosecutors will dismiss far more serious charges against General Sinclair, including that he twice forced the captain into oral sex and threatened to kill her and her family.
General Sinclair is expected to enter the pleas, outlined in a document endorsed by both sides and distributed by the defense team, in military court at Fort Bragg, N.C., as soon as Monday morning. Once his sentence is decided, possibly later this week, the problem-fraught two-year case will finally draw to a close.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair is accused of bullying a junior officer into sex and threatening her life. His trial was halted on Monday by the judge.
The deal caps the surprisingly rapid and, for the military, embarrassing collapse of what once seemed a powerful case an unraveling that began after Army prosecutors concluded that their chief witness, the captain, who had been the generals lover for three years, may have lied under oath at a pretrial hearing in January.

Sinclair gets off light, but the Army will be rid of him.
Yet another “victim” turns out to have lied through her teeth to cover her own behind, what a surprise. This is why I would never convict anyone in a he said she said case like this.
Maybe you’re right, but I still hate plea deals.
Jeffery Sinclair.....
Oh wait, that's not right
Nasty guy, for sure.
But what about the strong, warrior woman capable of leading men into combat? You know the MARRIED captain that was his mistress.
The title of mistress makes clear she was into the relationship, at least initially. So, she is guilty of adultery and should suffer punishment for violation of the UCMJ.
But of course she won't be punished because we all know the power difference between a general and a lowly captain meant she never had a choice. . .you know, like the president of the US ‘abusing’ some 19-yr old college intern in the White House. . .oh, wait. . .didn't the feminists say. . .never mind.
“Maybe youre right, but I still hate plea deals.”
True but the guy was at least guilty of adultery and sex with underlings in the military is usually frowned upon. So either way he was going down but the rape charge and the threat to kill her family just wasn’t credible. the feminists have taken over our military so expect to see more of this sort of thing as time moves forward.
My mentors in the Army taught me “Officers eat last.” That way, you knew the young Enlisted Soldiers had enough to eat. Now, we have Petraeus and Sinclair and their behavior in Aghanistan. Well, those female Officers should go out and give a blowjob to every Enlisted man in the unit. Generals should be the last ones getting the blowjobs. Maybe that would fix this. The second thing is that the Army needs to take a look at their selection/promotion process. We can’t win the war in Afghanistan, but we can get all the generals a blowjob?
Disgusting. Should have been fully prosecuted.
Given the unlawful command influence and the dubious testimony of the victim, that could not happen.
That was the vindictive Captain's story, but that part probably wasn't true. She was a willing partner in this affair until she discovered that the General had a wandering eye. Hell hath no fury.
I do recall a Captain's wife that was "servicing" many soldiers on our post. Does that count?
He was appointed to command an admin/log detachment in Northern Germany, some 400 miles NE of our battalion. I was the XO, which meant I was the acting CO when he went back to home station to try to salvage his marriage.
Things went much smoother when he wasn't around. To say that he was distracted was an understatement.
As Bill Clinton once said, “Close, but no cigar!”
I was lucky in that I was an Army officer stationed on Air Force bases during my tour in Germany. I dated an AF E-6 without fear of fraternization charges. Very nice young lady, but she was reassigned before it got serious.
The fact that the General is willing to retire as an O-5 indicates that he knows he did something very wrong. It just pi$$es me off when generals think they can get away with stuff like this.
LOL...I was expecting that.
. . .mistreated his former mistress, a captain. . .including that he twice forced the captain into oral sex and threatened to kill her and her family.
According to military corruption (don’t know how reliable they are) after the death threat, she continued to send the General sexually-explicit e-mail. They both should be give the boot.
It was disillusioning for me to learn that the real work of prosecutors is to reduce charges, while the real work of public defenders is to convince defendants to plead guilty.
That is our system. I don’t fit into it very well.
My friend was quite pleased when it all came crashing down.
Maybe Sinclair DID eat last
