I thought “gap years” was when you decided NOT to go to college and realized you were going to be working at the mall and living with 4 friends - then you returned to school.

Yep, pre college or post college, a tour of active duty in the military for most of us was a good thing and a real eye opener.

That's what I did, having been so foolish as to choose the wrong parents.

I saved enough money during my military service to pay for my first year of college, then worked part-time to pay for the rest.
