Witnesses are very unreliable. I remember when flt 800 went down there were dozens of witnesses who saw a missile. After this there were reports in major newspapers about how unreliable eyewitness accounts are.

Sarcasm right? There were over 200 eye witness reports. Did you happen to watch the video the gov’t put together showing the plane sans front end actually climbing 3K feet while spewing flaming fuel.

Unreliable witnesses? Like the 2 Vietnam veteran NG helicopter pilots in the air a few miles from TWO 800. Tey knew what SAMs and Manpads looked like.
The government tried to discredit witnesses by firing a Manpad on a day that was considerably more hazy than the night of the shoot down. Some witnesses observed the test from where they watched TWA 800 and stated the test fire looked identical to what they saw.
The wiring in the center fuel tank is mili-volts. You could scrape the wires and try to arc them all day and you would not be able to get Kerosene or Kerosene vapor to ignite.
There’s much, much more, but if you are curious , that should get you going. The TWA 800 on Netflix is good for an overview but lack many details, probably due to the constrains of making it a watchable length.
Agree. No one can see a 4’ long, flat-finish, 6” diameter missile from miles and miles away (these missiles are built to be low observable to the pilot because they don’t want the pilot to see it coming and defend. . .the missile is especially difficult to see even when close after motor burn-out. Claiming to watch a missile like this impact the jet is just plain silly. . .unless you have superman eyes.
I’ve had an inflight malfunction where the fighter I was flying climbed about a thousand feet before I could react, un-commanded flight control input due to software issue.
Why did the jet supposedly climb after it started to break-up: Un-commanded flight control input, the jet became a flight test platform with unknown flight performance after experiencing damage, and of course, shifting aft CG causes a pitch-up.
