“legal backing”

This might provide opportunities for an enterprising attorney to offer group plan/rates for teachers desirous of legal protection.

That could be a pretty significant niche.

Unions need to be crushed and stomped into dust!

Public sector union members should be deported to a communist country and imprisoned in a work camp.

Are you saying that the employer, the school district, provides no legal protection for its employees?

Public sector employees work for the law enforcers so the union becomes little more than a weapon to use against taxpayers.

I don’t know. I was replying to #16’s comment. Possibly, representation normally supplied by the employer has been replaced by union legal representation over time.

What I’ve seen in the past ( in a unionized situation) is an “us against them” atmosphere with the employee requiring legal help from a union steward/legal rep AGAINST the employer.

But...it never hurts to have your own unbiased legal help in any situation.

If an employee is no longer a member of the union, and will no longer have union legal help...will the school district pick that up? I don’t know. I guess it also depends on whether a parent is coming after the employee/district, or the district is coming after the teacher.

These bold 8,000 teachers are enduring massive wrath from their colleagues and the MEA goons. When you stop paying dues, you become a ‘scab’. These teachers are praiseworthy.

For these leeches its all about gettin paid. Same as 50% of the Federal bureaucracy.

NSA.. a huge jobs program
EEOC.... a huge affirmative action jobs program
Dept of Education— a huge affirmative action jobs program
EPA-— a huge affirmative action jobs program
Department of the Interior-— a huge affirmative action jobs program for hippies, eco-nuts, greenies and others

Union leeches herd these dopes into unions then get their skim from them because its all about gettin’ paid

These folks want out of the union. It’s just that the Union has not told them that they may only opt out in August. They assumed that by withholding their dues they would be opted out. Come this August look for at least 10,000 teachers to “officially” leave the union.

Good point. The union will come after them like a tiger to collect "unpaid dues", mess up their credit and worse.
