If suit case nukes existed and went missing how come no one has popped one of yet ?

My understanding of these miniaturized “suitcase nukes” is they require constant maintenance or they won’t fission.
Iran may have some, but they’re glorified “dirty bombs” by now. Still a big worry, nothing to sneeze at.
