Washington (CNN) - Slightly more Americans approve than disapprove of how President Barack Obama has so far handled the crisis in Ukraine, but that has not affected the President's overall job approval rating, according to a new national poll.
The CNN/ORC International survey released Monday also indicates that economic sanctions against Russia appears to be the only option that a majority of Americans support that's available to the U.S. to try and end the crisis in the Ukraine.
Forty-eight percent of people questioned in the poll say they approve of how the President has so far handled the Ukraine crisis, with 43% giving Obama a thumbs down and 9% unsure.
According to the poll, 43% of the public approves of how Obama is handling his overall job in the White House and 53% disapproves. Obama's approval/disapproval rating stood at 45%-50% a month ago. The President's current approval rating is slightly higher than where it stood in November and December, when his numbers hovered at or near all-time lows in CNN polling (41%) and many other national surveys.

Don’t 59% disapprove of Obamacare? How about trumpeting those numbers, CNN?
“17% support U.S. air strikes”
“12% support sending in U.S. ground troops...”
That is frightening.
“17% support U.S. air strikes
12% support sending in U.S. ground troops...
McLame/Graham voters!
hmmmm about the same that don’t approve of Obamacare, right CNN?
Showing no backbone is almost as frightening. How about some real tough measures that go beyond sanctions?
Obviously we need at least a 10% surtax imposed on everyone's income tax to pay for all these options.
The great Democrat Lyndon Baines Johnson did so for the Vietnam war where he gloriously led the US to victory and put those Communist expansionists in their place.
In the US White House and Congress.
What measures beyond sanctions would you suggest?
I’d like to see sanctions against our corrupt regime; they are the greatest threat to the liberty and prosperity of the American people.
Ukraine is a diversion and I don’t think our corrupt regime has anything positive to contribute.
“17% support U.S. air strikes
12% support sending in U.S. ground troops “
Oh look. We found the stupid people!
Oh goody, more borrowing.
I support sanctions. I absolutely do not support air strikes or ground troops. That is NOT in our best interest at all.
Although I’ve typically been rather sympathetic to the revolutionaries in Ukraine, ‘real tough measures’ against another nuclear power is a recipe for disaster.
Russia’s economy is a lot like Iran’s, in that they both have a lot of uncompetitive indigenous industries heavily subsidized by exports of natural gas and oil. That means that they need easy access to the world financial system (SWIFT) and a uninterrupted source of buyers to stay afloat. Otherwise everything will go downhill in a hurry.
Freezing the assets and money of oligarchs and corrupt officials, as well as denying them access to the countries of the US and the EU would also hurt Putin’s support amongst his most powerful allies/fellow robbers.
All of these things would hurt us too, but not nearly so much as it would hurt Russia. Just look at how the Russian stock market tanked after what happened in the Crimea, 13% down in one day even despite their bank spending massively to keep things afloat. Meanwhile Dow falls 0.5%.
80% of those polled are retards.
No offense intended to regular, decent retards.
“17% support U.S. air strikes
12% support sending in U.S. ground troops...
That is frightening.”
Putin has dared to make THE MESSIAH look bad, and he must be punished for that. You can hear CNN just beating on those war drums.
Bennett’s morning show had a good response: Repeat what Reagan did, lowering oil and gas prices, squeezing Russia once again economically. Fuel is Russia’s leverage with Europe. But, we’d have to go for higher oil and gas production, to make it cheaper.
Helps us, makes it harder for Putin.
Proxy war, maybe. Troops on the ground, will never happen
12% support sending in U.S. ground troops...
Those are people who think dumBO has been humiliated.
I support air strikes and sending in U.S. troops. What does it mean? It means exactly as much as the poster above capitalizing the word ‘not’ when saying that it is ‘NOT’ in our interest. Sheesh!
