Activists to Kerry: Keystone a 'bigger mistake' than Vietnam
The Hill's E2 Wire ^ | March 7, 2014 | Laura Barron-Lopez

Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto and 13 other young activists, including the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, are calling on Secretary of State John Kerry to reject the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

After speaking with top State Department officials on Thursday, the activists sent a letter to Kerry, digging deep into the secretary's past when he testified in Congress against the Vietnam War.

"In 1971, when you were roughly our age, you asked ‘How can you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?’ " the letter states. “We stand at such a point today, with respect to an even greater challenge, an even bigger mistake — the imminent threat of catastrophic climate disruption."

"We dare to believe that it’s not just an accident of history that this recommendation falls to you," the letter said.

Among the co-signers was Leto, who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar a week ago for his performance in "Dallas Buyer's Club."

Other co-signers included Guster guitarist Adam Gardner and Connor Kennedy, who was arrested a last year with his father at an anti-pipeline protest.

Ben Gosthall, leader of the Bold Nebraska campaign against Keystone XL, also joined in signing the request, which made the rounds before the final day the State Department would accept public comments on the $5.4 billion oil-sands pipeline.

Over 1 million comments are being sent to State on Friday, urging Kerry to say no to the pipeline, which will carry crude from oil sands in Alberta to refineries in the Gulf.

Another million will be sent from Keystone advocates. State's national interest review of the pipeline won't wrap up for another 60 days, at which point Kerry will be left to make his recommendation to President Obama.

You have to "sear" it in his mind, kids.

And when Mr. Obama was "roughly your age" he was smoking dope and doing blow in the Choom Gang, invisible at several colleges, somehow traveling to POHK-EE-STAHN without a passport and snuggling on the couch with a hairy fella.

These people are completely insane. We have thousands of miles of pipelines in this country. How do these idiots think that they are able to fly all over the World and ride in their armor plated SUV’s?

Morons, we are dealing with morons here!

If 0bama approves the pipeline, those same activists will bow their heads and be silent.

I think there is a contest we don’t know about with cash and cool prizes. The entrance requirement is to make the most asinine/outlandish and flatly ludicrous statement that gets picked up and parroted by the MSM/Democrat Party. Extra points if a Repub mirrors the statements when pandering for votes.

Prizes include cabnet seats/advisory positions in future lib admins. Past winners include Bill Ayres, James Carville and Hillary Clinton.

Approving a new Pipeline will result in “catastrophic climate disruption”?

Does anyone ever ask these Idiots the obvious one word question, HOW? Of course they wouldn’t be able to come up a sensible answer, but as my Father always says, “it doesn’t hurt to ask”.

Obviously if Keystone is cancelled and the oil rerouted to Vancouver, the planet will be safe for all of mankind and for all of eternity. (Well, at least until Obama is out, which just seems like an eternity).

The Keystone pipeline will add 850 miles to the 2.5 million miles of oil and gas pipelines we already have. If there was going to be a catastrophe from pipelines, wouldn't it already have happened?

You have to be correct. The stopping of one pipeline out of literally thousands will do nothing to solve anything even if everything they believe about AGP is 100% correct. It will however make rail car spills and barge spills much less common.

Kidding aside, it’s straight out of Propaganda 101.

Create a rallying point to distract from your problems. When you add all the feel good nonsense in the left wing keeping the troops ‘occupied’, where do they have time to even contemplate reality?

They spend the morning choosing which cause ribbon goes with their outfit, the afternoon choosing between tofu late free range mocha and predigested fair trade beans, and the evening contemplating whether to go to the AIDS benefit Tranny review or the No justice/Whirled Peas rally. They top off the eve with a few bong hits at the hooka bar, hook up with a sexually flexible hipster artesian and bang like gongs till the next morning.

Then vote for more of it.

Until you realize the hipster chick is really a dude with his junk tucked, the weed is laced with angel dust and the predigested beans came from the colon of a wombat...

Then it becomes ... not so fun ;)

This would be amusing except that these childish whiners really believe this nonsense & that Kerry is profoundly stupid.

You know her too?

That is why I don’t want to go back to the demonstration. Just a little more than ‘my fair share of abuse’!

Well...I’ve been to the Combat Zone, to Tijuana and lived in Vegas...so... probably. BUT NOT IN THE BIBLICAL SENSE!!! ;)

Their whole being is a fantasy so nothing they think, say or do shocks me anymore. I mean hell, these are people that call urine the “Golden Fluid” and drink/bathe in it as a beautifyer/’fountain’ of youth.

The only thing that DOES is that so many people play along and empower their insanity.
