Thanks to our Change.org petition (307,000-plus signatures and rising), millions of Americans have learned that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is about to allow U.S chickens to be sent to China for processing and then shipped back to the U.S. for human consumption.
This arrangement is particularly alarming given Chinas appalling food safety record and the fact that there will be no on-site USDA inspectors in those plants. In addition, American consumers will never know that chicken processed in China is in foods like chicken soup or chicken nuggets because theres no requirement to label it as such.
One frequent refrain weve heard is that no U.S. company will ever ship chicken to China for processing because it doesnt make economic sense. This was precisely the claim made by Tom Super, spokesman for the National Chicken Council, in a recent Houston Chronicle article about our petition:
Economically, it doesnt make much sense, Super said. Think about it: A Chinese company would have to purchase frozen chicken in the United States, pay to ship it 7,000 miles, unload it, transport it to a processing plant, unpack it, cut it up, process/cook it, freeze it, repack it, transport it back to a port, then ship it another 7,000 miles. I dont know how anyone could make a profit doing that.
Well, guess what? It clearly does make economic sense because this process is already being used for U.S. seafood. According to the Seattle Times, domestically caught Pacific salmon and Dungeness crab are currently being processed in China and shipped back to the U.S., all because of significant cost savings:

As you think about that, recall that in ancient times, the Romans and others would catapult disease-riddled corpses over the walls of cities they besieged to sicken and kill the enemy. The Chinese know that history even if we obviously have forgotten it. Get my drift there?
On a recent visit to China, a friend spotted this ad in a Beijing newspaper. He sent me the photo with a translation of the ad copy.
Yes, you can now join the millions of happy and prosperous Chinese citizens taking advantage of the growing numbers of American and Western multinational corporations outsourcing their production to the hard-working and industrious people of China. This outsourcing has now spread to their food supplies and ingestible items. Since these firms pay us for gross weight and this new weight will be pretty gross and the stupid American government only spot-checks imported items in these categories (they just got lucky on the anti-freeze thing), it has opened an entirely new opportunity which our beloved Chairman is offering to any Chinese citizen willing to do a little of what the foolish Americans call grunt work.
Installing one of these state-of-the-art food additive production facilities behind YOUR hovel is as simple as clipping the coupon below and sending it to the address shown. Your production plant will be shipped to you in 4 to 6 weeks. Supplies are limited so dont fart around. ACT NOW!!
These silly Americans have an expression we have borrowed and modified to describe this new and exciting venture: Dont give me any s**t.
Our motto will be We wont GIVE you any s**t. But well SELL it to you fools at a really great price.
Better yet, we convince them to COME HERE to pick it up and save us the shipping costs.
AND LOOK FOR A NEW DROP-DEAD MONEY-MAKER COMING SOON. SOYLENT YELLOW PROMISES TO BE BIG!!
AND YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THAT THE CHERY PERSONAL VEHICLE TO BE IMPORTED BY CHRYSLER IS SIMPLY A HORIZONTALLY MODIFIED VARIATION OF THE VERTICAL UNIT SHOWN ABOVE. WE SIMPLY SLAP AN ENGINE AND SOME WHEELS ON THAT PUPPY AND OFF SHE GOES! AMERICAS VAST ILLEGAL POPULATION OUGHT TO SNAP THEM UP LIKE TACOS.
At least someones making a profit. Thats all that matters, right?
There is no quality or safety control in China. Plus, their food exports have been used to purposely kill people in Japan. We’re idiots to buy Chinese made food products.
Profits trump food safety.
And you can bet your last penny that those making profits off this won’t be eating any of the food processed in China.
Does USDA's TRAITORVILSACK really believe the chickens we send over there are going to be the processed chickens we get back to eat!?!
I love antifreeze in my chicken.

Yup.

I'm speechless.
Really does this include Tyson and Perdue?
Just for the record, it is cheaper to order a tombstone from China, complete with all carving and inscription and have the 450lb unit crated and shipped to the U.S. than it is to buy one quarried in GA. or VT.
The Chicom processed chicken will be called "Soylent Chicken"
Ymmmmm....
Is this “chicken” supposed to have a collar in it that says “FIDO”?
I don't buy food from Muslim countries either...
