Kean is a left-winger. Chavez is open borders. These aren’t Conservatives.

Sex is a great distractor. Get people focused on other things so you can rip their Constitution right out from under their feet.

Yes, I was just poking at you. Of course, we can’t simply ignore the cultural issues, and sex is one of them. You’ll note the article came from the National Review and it’s not exactly supportive of the subject of casual sex.

I’ve thought that for the better part of the last 2 decades. It’s why the right to privacy only involves a woman’s uterus. The rest of her is apparently open season for governmental control.

Not for long, they are disappearing faster than Lois Lerner emails.

According to research from Johns Hopkins University professor Kathryn Edin, a leading scholar on poverty (particularly in the context of single parenting and family formation), unplanned pregnancy is often a “test” of a relationship. “As a new romance deepens, young women who are ‘not exactly planning’ to have children may nonetheless begin to look for signs of their partner’s willingness to ‘do the right thing’ if they were to ‘wind up pregnant,’” Edin reports, with her co-author Maria Kefalas, in Promises I Can Keep: Why Poor Women Put Motherhood before Marriage. Contraception is accessible and affordable, Edin and Kefalas note, but women are not always eager to use it. They cite reasons such as side effects, desire to build trust with their partner, or simply the desire to have a baby.

A woman might have an "unplanned" (unplanned by the guy, anyway) pregnancy. If he bails on marriage or commitment, then she has an abortion.

When researchers with CareNet dug into the data of the recent Turnaway Study (see previous coverage here and here), which was conducted by pro-choice advocates, they found that most women in the study who sought late-term abortions were between the ages of 20 and 24 and were in unstable relationships and had financial problems.

These women typically discovered they were pregnant later (12 weeks on average, compared to 5 weeks for those who sought earlier abortions), and were more likely to fight with the father over whether to have the abortion at all. It also took them longer to come up with the money for an abortion.

If you want to reduce abortion, focus on the uncommitted hook-up culture.

What's happening is not just simply lots of uncommitted sex. What's happening is that a lot of women are chasing a relatively small pool of "hot" desirable ("alpha") men. To get the desirable man's attention, she needs to provide sex. She will not get commitment, though, because it's easy for the desirable alpha guy to move on to the next women.

Meanwhile, the "nice guy" who might have an interest in marrying her gets no interest until she gets too old to attract the interest of anybody she finds exciting, and has to "settle" for whoever is willing to commit.

This is like a fire safety program that encourages people to play with matches.
