But one person after another stepped to the microphone and expressed fear that the licenses, far from helping them, could instead be used to deport them.
Last year, when California became the most populous state to pass a law permitting undocumented residents to obtain drivers licenses, advocates for immigrant rights were thrilled, saying it would allow people to commute without fear while also decreasing rates of hit-and-run accidents and uninsured drivers on the roads. Now those advocates are confronting another formidable obstacle: the deep and longstanding mistrust of the American government among this population.
It turns out that persuading immigrants who have spent decades avoiding the authorities to willingly hand over their names, addresses and photographs to the government is no easy sell particularly since the licenses will look different from regular ones, in ways that have yet to be determined.I believe this license process is not secure, one woman, who declined to identify herself, told state officials at an informational hearing here hosted by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Is this a trap?
Its not a trap, said Ricardo Lara, the state senator who represents this working-class city, where more than 40 percent of the population is foreign born. State law guaranteed that their information would not be shared with other government agencies, like Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he said, adding, Your information is protected.

Can some one please post the "HA-HA" graphic. Thanks.
Here I am ... one two three Main st .... come and get me.
“A native of Commerce, California, Lara attended Los Angeles Unified School District schools and graduated from San Diego State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and served as student body president.[2][3] He is currently pursuing a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
A longtime Assembly staffer, Lara worked as Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Marco Antonio Firebaugh (DSouth Gate) when Firebaugh served as Majority Leader. Lara later served as Fabian Nuñez’s district director during Nuñez’s time as Speaker. He then served as communications director for Assemblyman Kevin de León (DLos Angeles).”
This guy grew up in The City of Commerce!!! I didn’t know Commerce had any “residents.” It was supposed to be a city of warehouses. Maybe that’s where his illegal parents “took up residence” when they snuck into the country years ago.
Federal law requires states that issue drivers licenses to illegals, like here in Maryland and CA, must mark them differently so they cant be used as Federal IDs.
So their drivers licenses mark them as illegals.
They should be skeptical.
Your information is protected.
I was thinking of the one from the Simpsons. But that’ll do :)
duh. all this does is give the green light for more illegal invaders.
That's pretty common in many populations.

Since they’re illegal, why give them legal documents? Why not just give them illegal documents? We could give them pretend licenses to drive. They get pulled over, and they get arrested on the spot for having illegal documents.
We get their fingerprints at the DMV, then plant them at local crime scenes.
Come on folks. Both sides can play pin the documents on the horses ass.
Even Obama wants to play.
Nothing to worry about, lets just make another another another another accomodation. People who break our laws deserve every consideration, and then some, that we can fling at them.
This is all a lie. The US government knows where every single illegal is located. They all get sent tax return checks at the end of the year. And they all file because it is free money.
Unbelievable - let’s just let everybody in...
They won’t get deported, probably won’t have to get insurance or just to renew registration then cancel and they will still hit and run. Its the CA way.
ILLEGALS PREFER -—living off the grid. As in no vehicle insurance. As in being paid off the books. Not paying any taxes but getting thousands in phoney earned income tax credits.
They figure getting this California drivers license will put them into Gubbermint systems which will only give them headaches and maybe deportation. This is why these stupid thieves want amnesty. Then they cannot be deported or what have you
......convincing illegals who have spent decades avoiding authorities wanting them to willingly hand over their names, addresses and photographs to the government is no easy sell......
Plus sophisticated computer mining programs can uncover the same illegal using multiple licenses under several identities----each identity cashing multiple US govt checks, EITC refunds, welfare, food stamps, US, SSI, SS asylum checks, etc etc etc.
The Cali economy would collapse......if and when illegals stop cashing multiple US govt checks.
