Bladensburg, Md.
Where the Battle of Bladensburg took place in 1814. Also known as the Bladensburg Races, because of the way our defenders broke ranks and ran from the Redcoats on their way to burn Washington, DC.
Also was the home of the Crossroads Tavern where one of the greatest of the unknown guitar players,Roy Buchanan, played for many years.
The Peace Cross is a landmark enjoyed by many for close to 100 years.
This clown who was shocked when he saw it ought to get a life.
Also home to one of the oldest taverns on the East Coast, until a few years ago, when it was changed to a real estate office. I guess it’s some kind of county park office now.

I used to live just up the road in Hyattsville. Every year, 1812 re-enactors gather on the lawn of Riverdale Mansion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riversdale_(Riverdale_Park,_Maryland)) to celebrate the rout of US force at skirmish there.
Mr. Buchanan lived briefly next door to my wife's family when she was young. Apparently, he and his wife had fallen on tough times, and were renting the basement of the neighbor's house in Bladensburg. He was going to get out of the music business, and he was attending barber school.
But around 9 months into barber school, he got signed to a record deal, and that was that.
