First off Catholics follow every word His Holiness says as if it were from God Himself. As if he were the Vicar of Christ. As if some magic link that goes all the way back to Peter was in play (despite lack of scriptural or natural evidence their is a line of succession of some "magic" powers held in such office). But if he were to make some gaffe or verbal misstep THEN it's "He wasn't speaking ex-cathedra" time. They have a cover for everything. IF he were part of some succession of office he would be healing the sick and wandering the globe in poverty without Papal glory and accouterments.
First off this is really too comical a thread to get into this, but...Catholics are supposed to give the pope's words grave consideration, but are not bound UNLESS he his speaking ex cathedra, or in union with the magisterium.
Popes have only spoken ex cathedra a handful times between all of them. So its not some kind of conspiracy when Catholics say "he wasn't speaking ex cathedra at the time," because, he wasn't.
Maybe we should all be healing the sick and wandering the globe in poverty. Without internet access and accouterments.
On a different note you may want to turn on your porch lights -- I just got a direct line from the Vatican, there are some albino assassin monks planting f-bombs in your vegetable garden. All your veggies are going to start swearing at you. That's what you get for blowing our cover!
