Larry Lacewell (born February 12, 1937) is a former American football player, coach, scout, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Arkansas State University from 1979 to 1989, compiling a record of 69–58–4. Lacewell was later the longtime director of scouting for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League.

Well now since half a century of virtually every American sprinter (male or female) being black, I think people are irritated and fed up with having been lied to. It's just a matter of fact that on average blacks are faster than whites. It's too ridiculous trying to debate the subject as mathematically it would be impossible to have the kind of dominance in athletics blacks have if the races were equal in athletic ability. And pointing out the odd fast white guy won't work as an argument. People have to face reality.

I remember when people said that a black man would never play QB in the NFL.
Barry is basically saying that he would take Geno Smith over Johnny Manziel at QB. That’s the issue, not whether blacks can, on average, run in a straight line faster than whites.
Fritz Pollard played QB in the NFL in 1921. George Taliaferro played QB in the NFL in the early 1950s.
I was responding to many people whose comments I’ve read in the past decade who firmly believe white players are being unfairly discriminated against in favor of black athletes. They’re not. Although I must say it’s true that many good white athletes are not considered prime prospects strictly for that reason. But if they’re good, they’ll show up somewhere.
Romo? Ha ha. People keeping trying to put him in the group of elites. He can have all the good stats on paper he wants, he still cannot win when it counts.
Easier to be more athletic when you are carried academically and allowed to workout 24/7. If grades really mattered it would be a more equitable ratio reflecting the real world, but that doesn’t sell tickets and merchandise.
Same haters pour it on Belichick. They just wish they had their win-loss record and rings.
That’s a bit of a contradiction: white players aren’t discriminated against, but it’s true they aren’t considered prime prospects for that reason? That is the very definition of discrimination.
It’s possible that blacks are faster, but that fast white players are still subject to discrimination.
Racism is vile and morally despicable.

If colleges could only recruit athletes who were as academically qualified as regular students, there would be few black athletes playing major college sports. And a number of white athletes as well.
Okay, so complete the circle. Blacks are faster, but fast white players are discriminated against because they are white. You can say all the parts, but have some apprehension about putting it together.
I brought this up because I have read a number of recent articles and read comments by readers leading me to believe there is a body of white people who really believe that there are thousands of excellent white athletes whose careers are derailed because they're discriminated against.
There aren't. The athletic gap between whites and blacks necessary for success in sports that value running speed is substantial.

Who would discuss it? There are issues of much greater importance that aren’t discussed at all. The media that has spent six years telling us that Barack Obama is a brilliant intellectual, and two years telling us that RGIII is a great quarterback is not going to spend any time explaining why Jordy Nelson had to walk on at Kansas State.
I don’t expect to convince you, and I don’t entirely disagree with you. Blacks clearly do have an overall speed advantage, but Barry Switzer just confirmed in very stark terms that inherent advantages across a population don’t tell the entire story. I mean, he did just come right out and say it about the one non-kicking position apart from center that is utterly dominated by white players. Imagine how he feels about linebacker or defensive end. Luke Kuechly and J.J. Watt need not apply? Maybe Barry is an aberration. Maybe football is a meritocracy after all.
