At least 28 people were killed and 113 wounded when a group of people armed with knives stormed a railway station in the southwest Chinese city of Kunming, authorities said, according to state news agency Xinhua.
It was an organized, premeditated terrorist attack, authorities told the news agency. Five suspects were reported dead, according to authorities.
No motive has been provided. Chinese President Xi Jinping "urged the law enforcement to investigate and solve the case and punish the terrorists in accordance with the law," according to Xinhua.
Yang Haifei, a resident of Yunnan, told Xinhua he was buying a ticket when a group of people, most of them in black, rushed into the station and started attacking others.

"Why are the terrorists so cruel?" said Chen Guizhen, holding her husband's bloodied ID card.

No idea, but the general area is one of the parts of China with significant Muslim minorities.

Was it a semi-automatic knife?
This is an odd one. Yunnan province has borders with Burma, Laos and Vietnam. Yunnan is noted for a very high level of ethnic diversity. It has the second highest number of ethnic groups among the provinces and autonomous regions in China.
Approximately 1 million Muslims live in Yunnan, out of a population of 45.7 million (2009).

Unless you are actually Bruce Lee, I’m skeptical unarmed martial arts will be much help against several attackers with knives. I assume any resistance would cause others of the attackers to rush to suppress it.
These things work a lot better in the movies than in reality.
Although it may be too bad there were no Gurkhas around.
Ever see a real Kung Fu martial arts master? I did once, many years ago. It was a simulated demonstration but one man put down four ‘’attackers’’ armed with rubber knives. Impressive hardly describes it.
For sure, each with a 15 knife mag, if only they were limited to 10 knife mags, things would have been safer.
Many have wondered the same about the Chinese.
Everybody else always gets to have fun.
It would be so fun to knock out some of these little pukes.

Almost certainly. The Chinese exempt them from their “one-child” policy. That major-league mistake could well be a fatal mistake for the ethnic Chinese.
Yes, Muslims. What sets us apart from them, is that the arrival of waves of Mexicans over the decades has not resulted in local Americans attempting to slaughter the newcomers. Muslims are a breed apart from regular humans.
