Not so different than Jimbo Carter and the Iranian regime . . . and they loathed him.
I still fondly recall Walter Cronkite in tears at the split screen with Reagan's swearing in on the left and the hostage airplane on the Tehran tarmac on the right. The Iranians wouldn't allow it to take off until Reagan was sworn in. And all Walter could do was blubber about Carter doing all the work to free the hostages and Reagan getting the credit.
Reagan, class act that he was, asked Carter to be first on the plane to greet the hostages when it arrived on American soil.
