Weather seems to blame for U.S. slowdown, Fed's Yellen says

Unusually harsh winter weather appears to be behind recent signs of weakness in the U.S. economy, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said on Thursday, suggesting the central bank was poised to press forward in ratcheting back its stimulus.

Testifying to the Senate Banking Committee, Yellen said the Fed would watch carefully to ensure weather was indeed the culprit, but she reiterated that it would take a "significant change" to the economy's prospects for the Fed to put plans to wind down its bond-buying program on hold.

“Weather seems to blame for U.S. slowdown, Fed’s Yellen says”

What do you know? All this time I had been thinking the lousy Obamaconomy was due to photo ray emissions from Orion.

I can see that the latest Fed chairman is every bit the liar as the previous one.

In the era of Obama, nothing can be blamed on the policies of Obama. Instead, previous presidents, or outside forces, such as weather in this case, will be assessed the blame.

In no case are we allowed to question or blame the policies and actions of this administration for bad economic news.

I work in transportation logistics, and it’s been Hell. Nobody has capacity anywhere. The ports are all jammed up. Drivers DO NOT want to go to the Northeast.

Wow! It’s as if this year is the first year that Winter has ever happened!!

Has the Federal Reserve Chairman(woman) always been such a politically oriented liar as we’ve seen with this one, and her predecessor?

“No Bubbles here”
“Subprime Is Contained”
“We Won’t Monetize The Debt”
...ect...ect

This is a (tragically) funny lie.

The weather has been just fine here on the West Coast, and our regional economy (based on my informal count of poor people wandering around aimlessly, and clearly without "hope") is spiraling downward in a nosedive.

THIS (retired) driver NEVER wanted to go to the Northeast.

I'll take the beautiful mountains of WV over the traffic and assholes of the Northeast ... and Oh Yeah ... the arrogant Northern Virginians.

5 years of bad economy because of three months of bad weather?
That’s amazingly stupid........

Yes, we never get snow in the winter in New England. Must be that damn global warming which something tells me Janet Yellen subscribes to.

No, she probably speaks the truth. Everyone should know that the economy slows in a bad winter and even in a not so bad winter.

Right, that why they have all those “seasonal adjustments”. It snows a lot in New England every year. This is not the worst it’s been by far. We’ve had winters with 10 feet of snow. Colder this year than normal but not as much snow as others.

Perhaps the economists could come up with something like a kind of "seasonal adjustment" that would take this into account.

I will also note that the Obama administration made a similar claim about January 2013 -- they were surprised by winter back then as well.

She must be referring to the weather created when the gates of hell opened up and excreted the POS in the white hut that is the job-killer in chief.

We are not supposed to blame the last five years of bad economic news on the five years of Obama’s policies. We must find a scapegoat. In this case, the weather. There needs to be someone else or some outside force to blame things on, in the era of Obama.
