Yikes! There was some history between myself and this VP (as well as between he and my future wife, who also worked for the company). So when he had a sudden attack of kidney stones and word hit the grapevine, my boss put two and two together and presumed I had just beaten the living snot out of him.

At least the VP could only fire you. Years ago I ran over my Dad with a tractor. A Dad could kill you for that and probably get away with it.
