Alaska fixed this a long time ago. Try to use the insanity defense and you’re locked up in a mental hospital until cured. Then you start your jail time. Now nobody tries to use the insanity defense any more. Now is that a miracle or what?!

LOL. Yes, interesting how that's worked out. It's actually logical, too. I guess some distance from the insanity in the lower 48 keeps the population's mental faculties acute.

This subject came up in the Quincy show many years ago (a fiction series about a medical examiner). I recall that Dr. Quincy went on a fairly long tirade about how a verdict selection in trials should be, "Insane, but guilty", rather than "Not guilty by reason of insanity." Such a verdict would keep these animals off the streets regardless of how they do in a mental hospital.
