But during that time Gore was still vice-president so why should he get out? It's not like he tried to stay past January 20th. I don't see the connection between that and what Chavez's kids are doing.
Come now, I haven't heard anything bad about those kids (granted it could be newsroom covered-up), but there's nothing I've seen that should condemn them.
IOW: Other than their parentage, which they have no control over, they seem decent enough — in fact, given their parentage, I rather feel sorry for them.
Sounds like something the Obamas would do.
The whole 2000 election was contentious, and the dems made it so.
Al Gore made it clear that come Jan 20 2001, he wouldn’t be leaving.
We disabused him of the notion.
As for why he should get out: he lost.
I have seen enough evidence to render a verdict.
Guilty.
I wonder who Daddy left in charge of the purse strings. He divorced the mom in 1992 and the second wife in 2004 so maybe another relative or mistress?

What good is being a dictator if you can’t dictate because the last dictator dictated too well to his own dictatorial family?
Socialism is such a wonderful thing. When you're at the top of the pyramid....
They better be careful though - the way things are going they may end up swinging from lamp posts.
Short answer: It is possible, since they are very well connected.
First, they are the adult children of the former dictator; have access to any number of operators in the power network, know where quite a few bodies are buried and know what levers to pull.
Second, one of them, Rosa Virginia, is married to the present vice president, Jorge Arreaza.
Arguably, and particularly since they have not been kicked out of the palace, they are more powerful than the current president.
My guess is that one day they will be found dead after having arrogantly crossed the wrong person.
I thought that income inequality and social justice wouldn’t allow this sort of thing in a workers paradise. They probably have billions in a Swiss bank account and just think they are too good to actually pay.
The Venezuelans are very reluctantly waking up faced with two alternatives. Become willing to die or kill, and break things, to defend and secure their natural rights or surrender and become like the never-ending people languishing in the poverty and fear of Cuba.
They don't like this damnable choice, in fact, they hate and dread it with a purple passion. But if enough of them understand and face this reality, not even a majority of them are necessary, there is hope. But the mob of dumb colectivos supporting the mobbed up and corrupt thugs "running things" there will not be talked out of their way.
The common colectivos, armed and dangerous gangs of mostly dumb and poor Chavistas, recruited from the barios and trade unions, nominal communists, praised and supported by Maduro and his strongmen to intimidate protesters. Medira, Venezuela, February 19, 2014.
One thing going for this exceptionally civilized and refined nation of people is the poignant memory of a better way of life, which can often be the source of inspiration for the self-sacrifice necessary to recruit members of an effective movement.
Nevertheless, they have to face the fact that they can neither talk nor shout down their oppressors.

so, who is controlling the military. boot em out!
The problems in Venezuela rest at the feet of Obama. Instead of helping...He kissed Chavez A$$ the first chance he got 6 years ago. Birds of a feather.
Even better: We chanted, “Get out of Cheney’s house!”
Of course, as this was November and December of 2000, technically it was not yet Cheney’s house, but the message we sent was clear.
Wow! The evil deeds we saw in those days seems so innocent now by comparison....
seems = seem
But I will speculate Maduro will be taken out before the Chavez children. Winning his last election by only a slim margin suggests he may have competent opponents, and there is also significant trouble in the streets to mask any hit.
Further, it appears Chavez regarded Maduro as his right hand man and ultimately appointed him as VP. Maduro claimed to think of himself as a son of Chavez and it seems unlikely he would off the Chavez children. It is hard to believe any mere disgruntled vendor would be so desperate or courageous to do so.
Given the current turmoil, of course, anything could happen. They could all be gone tomorrow. Fun to speculate.
Thank you very much for the clarification. Who are the protesters alligned with? Are they the people, (exhausted with socialism), or socialist militants?
