"Putin’s having a bad day...."

His day is not done.

Will the Ukraine Army answer to Parliament, or the President?

Will the Russian Army allow the Crimea and Eastern Ukraine to fall under the sway/control of (l)iberal Europeans?

The worst case for Putin is a sham reformation of government followed by sham elections...while the Russian and Ukrainian security services quietly remove agitators and opinion makers.

Russia will not cede hegemony over Ukraine.

Unfortunately the fighting has escalated quite a bit, which is really bad for everyone. Somebody on the government side thought killing some protestors was a good idea.

And now both sides have taken up arms.

These captured government police look worried. They are depending on the moral values of the protesters for their lives now. Their faces say better than a thousand words why political resolution of disputes is better than violence, and that violence by governments against their citizens rarely turns out well for anybody.

And now both sides have taken up arms.

but not equivalent ones.

The youth in the foreground is carrying an air rifle, a pellet gun; the man to the right in the brown vest, a shotgun, looks to be a break action single but might be a dbl barrel.

The government forces will let them wander about for propaganda value as they pose little threat to stand off forces. And if by luck they do manage to draw blood, the government is served yet again.

"See, the extremist rebels are armed and shot first!" Sez gov-puppet. Kind of like something Carney will say when it happens here.
