According to an Immigration & Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, the solicitation "was posted without the awareness of ICE leadership" and "will be reviewed to ensure the path forward appropriately meets [the agency's] operational needs.”

However, DHS may still be accessing national license plate data—collected by the private company Vigilant Solutions—on an ad hoc basis.

It’s clear enough what it is: it’s an Orwellian nightmare.

Americans these days have forgotten what it means to be the citizen of a free country.

As soon as they can figure out how to do it without interfering with the “rights” of illegal immigrants, they will proceed.

DHS shelved its plans to create or tap into a national database of license plate recognition data.

Yeah, sure they did.

Just like when any other piece of the growing police state apparatus is revealed in the press, they publicly disavow it.

Privately though, they step on the accelerator.

If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. In fact, if you don’t welcome this you must be up to something and guilty of being a terrorist.

And the FBI doesn’t keep a record of firearms back ground checks. And the federal health care database won’t be used for political reasons.
