You’re absolutely right; a while back somebody posted a picture of two rolls of toilet paper (same brand) in which the width shrinkage was impossible to miss...

I forgot that one. Just near the end of last year I discovered the same thing. Had an old roll of TP that I sat a new roll next to and the difference in size was startling.

And in the meantime, the prices slowly continue to creep up...

That is how a producer hides inflation to you. The government calculates inflation according to a basket of goods. So a pound of coffee is a pound of coffee, regardless of whether the producer has made the package size 14 ounces.
