There was a holiday for Lincoln in the 1950’s, in the America that I grew up in, even in Louisiana- whether it was a federally sanctioned holiday was not generally known. All of the calendars showed Feb 12 as Lincoln’s Birthday.

I remember being hacked off when they combined them into a Monday because Washington’s B;day was my Grandpa’s birthday as well. We always could celebrate the two together.

Many states DID have a Lincoln’s Birthday holiday, but it was never a federal one. And of course all calendar makers used to mark the day, and hopefully the still do.
