Posted on 02/16/2014 8:33:36 PM PST by CondorFlight
At 5:00pm Pacific Time, Ethiopian Flight 702, a Boeing 767-300 was flying over Sudan when it started squawking 7500. The transponder code, is supposed to indicate a hijacking.
The flight, operating from Addis Abba to Rome has been confirmed by Rome Airport not to have arrived yet. As of now, it is over France, but has recently taken a steep northeast heading.
Based on flight tracking, it appears the plane is headed to Geneva. Emergency crews are standing by.

Last reported circling over Lake Geneva at 7000 ft.
The plane flew right past Rome, and continued on to Switzerland. It may be low on fuel.
Is it wise to tell the whole world this, including any collaborators not on the plane?
“It is currently circling over Geneva Airport (GVA), with a military escort.”
Plane was circling Geneva Airport; airport was apparently closed. Now it appears to be heading southwest, away from Geneva.
Follow the plane live on the radar map, at Flightradar.

Thanks for the update.
Headed back towards Geneva now, after making a larger loop to the south.
Could you provide a link?
Oh boy, prayers for those on board.
Follow on radar:
Post 9-11-01 rules: Fight back or get shot down.
The aircraft now has 20 minutes of fuel remaining (8:45pm PST) via LiveATC.net
Reports of one engine potentially flaming out (unconfirmed via LiveATC)
Where is it on radar?
I haven’t gone to that link. No other article search from google news and when I searched the regular site with that flight number, it shows the flight as completed:
Ethiopian Airlines Flight 702
Departed Addis Ababa, today
Time Terminal Gate
12:30 AM 2 -
Arrived Rome, today
Time Terminal Gate
4:40 AM 3
I assume google gave me local times. The article mentions 5pm PST (8pm EST).
Reports of the aircraft being directed to make an approach but not landing until a response is given regarding the word asylum (via LiveATC)
Fuel warning has been received on the flight deck (Via LiveATC)
Back in 1996 an Ethiopian 767 had to ditch in the water due to hi-jackers and lack of fuel.
I’ve loaded the radar image and agree they are still tracking it inflight. Don’t know how “informative” google is to report that it already landed at destination.
Dropping altitude, may be on approach
heading back to Geneva it appears.
Yes, it looks like it’s circling the airport. I hope it lands safely.
Aircraft apparently cleared for an ILS approach. What could be a hostage negotiator has been heard on the radio
Response to the request will be given by Swiss Authorities on Short Final for landing on Runway 05 (via LiveATC)
No longer on radar via Flightaware http://flightaware.com/live/flight/ETH702
2300 feet, 140 knots
Down to 4000 ft...
On the ground now...
It looks like it missed a runway
You are right, it in no way lines up with all the other planes on that runway.
not moving now.
In the sense that it’s now on land. It doesn’t look like its at the airport, though.
it keeps creeping in a Northeast direction, very odd
is it on the ground in Geneva or Rome?
How accurate is flightradar? Shows it northeast of the airport on the Swiss/French border
If this is real, why is it not on the news sites?
On the bright side, no fuel equals not fire.
now it looks like it is trying to turn downwind for approach
Pilots heard on radio stating they will be exiting via the aircraft flight deck window.
QY6915 was just diverted away from Geneva.
Do you mean zero altitude? I saw that on the screen, hopefully they’ve landed and not crashed.
The pilot possibly has gone out the cockpit window.
